Persistent High Pulse Pressure in Acute Non-Cardiogenic Ischemic Stroke as a Predictor of Neurological Deterioration and Recurrence of Ischemic Stroke: ADS Post-Hoc Analysis
CONCLUSIONS: High PP during the acute phase of ischemic stroke appears to be associated with ischemic stroke recurrence and neurological deterioration, particularly if PP is elevated both on admission and 24 h later after admission.PMID:37081614 | DOI:10.5551/jat.64079

Abstract 235: Acute Care Measures of Rehabilitation Needs Associated with Discharge to Rehabilitation for Patients with Minor Stroke Poster Session II
Conclusions: Rehabilitation needs were documented for patients with minor stroke and almost one third were discharged to receive inpatient rehabilitation in an IRF or SNF. Taking pre-stroke disability into consideration for transition planning from acute care could facilitate earlier communication and planning with the next point of care.

Abstract 238: Utilization and Safety of a Heparin Nomogram in Treating Thrombotic Comorbidities in Stroke Patients Poster Session II
CONCLUSION: The heparin stroke nomogram appears safe in that it does not increase risk of ICH. However, therapeutic aPTTs are not reached quickly with less than half of patients therapeutic at 24 hours, nor are they maintained at steady state. This nomogram could be too conservative in cases where clinical situation requires rapid anticoagulation.

Effects of Batroxobin with Continuous Transcranial Doppler Monitoring in Patients with Acute Cerebral Stroke: A Randomized Controlled Trial
Our objective was to determine whether continuous transcranial Doppler (TCD) monitoring could safely enhance the efficacy of batroxobin, a thrombin‐like enzyme extracted from Bothrops atrox moojeni venom, in the treatment for acute cerebral stroke beyond the thrombolytic time window. Ninety patients suffering an acute cerebral stroke were recruited into the study within 12 hours after the onset of symptoms. Patients were randomized to receive batroxobin with (target group) or without 1 hour of continuous TCD monitoring (control group). Clinical evaluation of stroke was based on the National Institutes of Health Stroke ...

Preoperative risk factor analysis of postoperative stroke after Cox-maze procedure with mitral valve repair
Conclusions: In the group of patients who underwent the Cox-Maze procedure with mitral valve repair, having a stroke history was the only preoperative risk factor that could lead to a stroke event after surgery. Accordingly, patients with affliction of ischemic stroke, albeit sustained sinus rhythm, may require prophylactic anticoagulation.

Stroke and death in elderly patients with atrial fibrillation in Japan compared with the United Kingdom
Conclusions Elderly (age ≥75 years) patients with AF in both Japan and the UK are at similarly high risk of stroke and death, with OAC still underused in both populations. Ethnicity was not independently associated with the risk of stroke, regardless of OAC use or non-use.

Female Sex Is a Risk Modifier Rather Than a Risk Factor for Stroke in Atrial Fibrillation: Should We Use a CHA2DS2-VA Score Rather Than CHA2DS2-VASc?
CONCLUSIONS: Female sex is a risk modifier for stroke in patients with atrial fibrillation. Initial decisions on oral anticoagulant treatment could be guided by a CHA2DS2-VA score (ie, excluding the sex category criterion), but the Sc risk component modifies and accentuates stroke risk in women who would have been eligible for oral anticoagulant treatment on the basis of ≥2 additional stroke risk factors. Cumulative Effects of LDL Cholesterol and CRP Levels on Recurrent Stroke and TIA.
CONCLUSIONS: The control of both LDL cholesterol and CRP levels appears to be effective for preventing recurrent stroke and TIA in patients with non-cardiogenic ischemic stroke. PMID: 30318492 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Association of Cerebral Arterial Stiffness with Initial Severity in Acute Ischemic Stroke.
CONCLUSIONS: Cerebral arterial stiffness was independently associated with initial severity in AIS patients, and may be more strongly correlated with the initial SVO severity than those of other subtypes. PMID: 31130556 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Effect of Statin on Stroke Recurrence Prevention at Different Infarction Locations: A Post Hoc Analysis of The J-STARS Study.
CONCLUSIONS: Pravastatin significantly reduced the recurrence rate of all stroke among patients with PCS. Thus, the effect of statin on the recurrence of stroke may differ according to infarction location. PMID: 31554765 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Eicosapentaenoic-to-Arachidonic Acid Ratio Predicts Mortality and Recurrent Vascular Events in Ischemic Stroke Patients.
CONCLUSIONS: Low EPA/AA ratio at baseline and treatment without statins could predict mortality, recurrent ischemic stroke, cardiovascular and peripheral artery diseases, and hemorrhagic stroke among patients with acute ischemic stroke. The combination of baseline EPA/AA ratio and statin therapy could be critical in predicting the long-term prognosis of ischemic stroke patients. PMID: 31969533 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Efficacy and Safety of Prasugrel by Stroke Subtype: A Sub-Analysis of the PRASTRO-I Randomized Controlled Trial.
CONCLUSIONS: Although statistical significance was not reached, the efficacy of prasugrel was potentially different between stroke subtypes, warranting further studies. PMID: 32493881 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Association of Gut Microbiota-Dependent Metabolite Trimethylamine N-Oxide with First Ischemic Stroke.
CONCLUSIONS: This study suggested a positive association between plasma TMAO and ischemic stroke. Further studies are required to explore the role of plasma TMAO concentrations in predicting stroke risk. PMID: 32641646 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

tPA Mobilizes Immune Cells that Exacerbate Hemorrhagic Transformation in Stroke.
Conclusions: Our findings suggest that immune invasion of the neurovascular unit represents a previously unrecognized mechanism underlying tPA-mediated brain hemorrhage, which can be overcome by precise immune modulation during thrombolytic therapy. Efficacy and Safety of Prasugrel vs Clopidogrel in Thrombotic Stroke Patients With Risk Factors for Ischemic Stroke Recurrence: A Double-blind, Phase III Study (PRASTRO-III)
CONCLUSIONS: We observed a risk reduction of 5% with prasugrel vs clopidogrel, indicating comparable efficacy. There were no major safety issues for prasugrel.PMID:35599000 | DOI:10.5551/jat.63473
