Contraction of Blood Clots Is Impaired in Acute Ischemic Stroke.
CONCLUSIONS: The changeable ability of clots and thrombi to shrink in volume may be a novel unappreciated mechanism that aggravates or alleviates the course and outcomes of ischemic stroke. The clinical importance of clot or thrombus transformations in vivo and the diagnostic and prognostic value of this blood test for clot contraction need further exploration. Ability of the Ankle Brachial Index and Brachial-Ankle Pulse Wave Velocity to Predict the 3-Month Outcome in Patients with Non-Cardioembolic Stroke.
CONCLUSION: Our study suggests that the stroke outcome can be predicted using ABI and to an extent using baPWV when ABI ≥ 0.9 in patients with non-cardioembolic stroke. PMID: 28502918 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Genetic Variants of RAMP2 and CLR are Associated with Stroke.
CONCLUSIONS: This was the first study to investigate the relationships between ADM receptor genes (RAMP2 and CLR) and stroke in the light of gene-environment interactions in human. PMID: 28904253 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Is lipoprotein(a) a  risk factor for ischemic stroke and venous thromboembolism?
AbstractThe structural similarity with plasminogen as well as thrombogenic and atherogenic in vitro functions raise the question if lipoprotein(a) (Lp(a)) is a  risk factor for venous thromboembolism (VTE) and ischemic stroke. Numerous case–control and prospective studies using different cut-off values to define high Lp(a) generated conflicting evidence for both VTE and ischemic stroke. Several meta-analyses demonstrated independent associations of elev ated Lp(a) with a history of VTE or ischemic stroke. However, the evidence of prospective studies for associations of Lp(a) with incident stroke or recurrent VTE remain...

The ACTB Variants and Alcohol Drinking Confer Joint Effect to Ischemic Stroke in Chinese Han Population.
CONCLUSIONS: ACTB rs852426 was significantly associated with alcohol consumption on stroke risk, and the expression of ACTB mRNA in IS who had a drinking habit was significantly down-regulated. This finding will provide a novel insight into the prevention of stroke. PMID: 31327802 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Different Influences of Statin Treatment in Preventing At-Risk Stroke Subtypes: A Post Hoc Analysis of J-STARS.
CONCLUSIONS: Statins showed different influences on the risks of atherothromobotic and lacunar stroke according to postrandomized LDL cholesterol levels. PMID: 31534062 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

A meta-analysis of clinical risk factors for stroke in anticoagulant-na ïve patients with atrial fibrillation
ConclusionThis study confirms age and prior stroke as the strongest predictors of stroke or systemic embolism in anticoagulant-naive AF patients. Other predictors include hypertension, diabetes, heart failure, and vascular disease. Female sex seems not to be universally associated with stroke or systemic embolism.

Predictive Value of the ABCD3-I for Short- and Long-Term Stroke after TIA with or without sICAS
CONCLUSIONS: ABCD3-I score performed well in predicting short-term risk of a stroke after an index TIA in patients with or without sICAS. However, the predictive power decayed with the prolonged period, and the decayed extent was more pronounced among those with sICAS. The assessment of sICAS is a non-ignorable item when using the ABCD3-I score for long-term stroke risk prediction in patients with TIA.PMID:34744099 | DOI:10.5551/jat.63050

Propensity of Stroke in Standard versus Various Aortic Arch Variants: A 200 Patients Study
CONCLUSIONS: Standard aortic arch Type 2, bovine aortic arch Type A, and Type B are associated with an early age at stroke presentation. During routine carotid evaluation by CT or MR angiography in stroke patients, it would be better to evaluate the aortic arch as well, especially in young patients.PMID:36211155 | PMC:PMC9540953 | DOI:10.4103/aian.aian_710_21
