Ischemic Stroke Due to Heparin-induced Thrombocytopenia During Severe COVID-19 Infection
Intern Med. 2022 Jul 5. doi: 10.2169/internalmedicine.9531-22. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTA 53-year-old woman with severe coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pneumonia was admitted and treated with intravenous unfractionated heparin for thromboprophylaxis under general anesthesia with mechanical ventilation. She developed right hemiparesis after hospitalization due to a large hemorrhagic infarction. Her platelet count decreased from 243,000/μL at administration to 121,000/μL. Anti-platelet factor 4-heparin antibody testing was positive according to a latex immunoturbidimetric assay. She was therefore diagnosed with he...

A case report of parenchymal hematoma after intravenous thrombolysis in a rivaroxaban-treated patient: Is it a true rivaroxaban hemorrhagic complication?
AbstractRationale:To date, the only treatment approved for acute ischemic strokes is thrombolysis. Whether intravenous thrombolysis may be safe in patients taking direct oral anticoagulants (DOACs) is currently a matter of debate.Patient concerns:A 74-year-old woman, who was on rivaroxaban 20 mg/d for nonvalvular atrial fibrillation, was admitted to our stroke unit with left-sided hemiparesis and aphasia. The onset of neurologic deficits had occurred 5 hours after the last rivaroxaban dose.Diagnosis:An acute ischemic stroke was diagnosed.Interventions:The patient was administered thrombolytic treatment with intravenous r...

Cross-sex Hormones and Acute Cardiovascular Events in Transgender Persons: A Cohort Study.
Conclusion: The patterns of increases in VTE and ischemic stroke rates among transfeminine persons are not consistent with those observed in cisgender women. These results may indicate the need for long-term vigilance in identifying vascular side effects of cross-sex estrogen. A rat model of vascular dementia for evaluating Chinese medicine prescriptions
Conclusions For evaluating Chinese medicine, a model of vascular dementia in rats is set up with the lacunar stroke from self-thrombosis during hypercholesterolemia. This model from lacunar stroke is useful to investigate the pathogenesis and treatment of vascular dementia.

Efficacy and risks of anticoagulation for cerebral venous thrombosis
Conclusion: Anticoagulant treatment with heparin is safe and beneficial for patients with CVT, even for those accompanied with hemorrhagic stroke. Besides, LMWH is better than UFH in the management of CVT.

Mobile health technology-supported atrial fibrillation screening and integrated care: A report from the mAFA-II trial Long-term Extension Cohort.
CONCLUSION: Amongst AF patients with long term use (≥1 year) of mHealth technology for optimising stroke prevention, symptom control and comorbidity management, adherence/persistence was good and associated with a reduction in adverse clinical outcomes. Cerebrovascular disease in patients with COVID-19 infection: a case series from Lebanon
Ann Med Surg (Lond). 2023 Jun 10;85(7):3701-3708. doi: 10.1097/MS9.0000000000000953. eCollection 2023 Jul.ABSTRACTCOVID-19 has been associated with a variety of multi-organs complications, with an increasing proportion of patients presenting with neurologic manifestations. There is still an uncertainty in the relationship between stroke and COVID-19. Therefore, in this study, the authors report 18 cases of acute stroke occurring in the setting of COVID-19 infection, including 11 ischaemic strokes and 7 haemorrhagic strokes and identified in a Lebanese tertiary hospital. In this case series, patients with ischaemic and haem...

Comparison of aspirin and Naoxintong Capsule (脑心通胶囊) with adjusted-dose warfarin in elderly patients with high-risk of non-valvular atrial fibrillation and genetic variants of vitamin K epoxide reductase
Conclusions Aspirin combined with NXT and warfarin displayed comparable rates of primary end point including ischemic stroke and all-cause death during the 1-year follow-up. However, as compared with warfarin, the combination therapy reduced the rate of serious bleeding. Therefore, aspirin combined with NXT might provide an alternative pharmacotherapy in preventing ischemic stroke for elderly patients with NAVF who cannot tolerate warfarin. (No. ChiCTR-TRC-13003596)

Can catheter ablation reduce the incidence of thromboembolic events in patients with atrial fibrillation?: Protocol for a systematic review and meta-analysis
Abstract Atrial fibrillation (AF), the most common cardiac arrhythmia, is a major risk factor for thromboembolic events, especially ischemic stroke. Catheter ablation is an effective method to maintain sinus rhythm in patients with AF. Although some observational studies have shown a relatively lower stroke rate after catheter ablation, whether catheter ablation can reduce the thromboembolic risk in patients with AF remains unclear. We aim to perform a systematic review to determine whether catheter ablation can prevent thromboembolism in patients with AF. PubMed, Embase, the Web of Science, and the Cochrane Library wil...
