First in vivo evaluation of a flexible self‐apposing left atrial appendage closure device in the canine model
ConclusionThe percutaneous delivery of a novel self‐positioning LAA occlusion device is feasible and safe in a canine model. At 30 days, all devices displayed complete healing and occlusion of the LAA without any device related adverse events. © 2015 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.

Surgical treatment of complex aneurysms and thoracic aortic dissections with the Frozen Elephant Trunk technique
Conclusion: Frozen Elephant Trunk is a feasible technique and should be considered. The severity of the underlying disease justifies high mortality rates. The learning curve is a reality. This approach allows treatment of more than two segments at once. Nonetheless, if a second stage is made necessary, it is facilitated. Resumo Objetivo: Relatar experiência inicial com a técnica "Frozen Elephant Trunk". Métodos: Entre julho de 2009 e outubro de 2013, 21 pacientes, 66% homens, média de idade de 56±11 anos, 66,7% portadores de dissecção da aorta tipo A de Stanford (9,6% agudas e 57,1% crônicas), tipo B (14,3%, todas ...

Management of inferior vena cava aneurysm.
CONCLUSION: IVC aneurysms are rare with only 54 cases reported in the literature. Associated vascular anomalies and iliocaval thrombosis should be expected in approximately 20% of cases. Type I aneurysms can be managed expectantly with close surveillance unless symptomatic. For type II-IV, surgical consideration should be given based on high rates of thromboembolic complications and non-negligible risk of rupture. PMID: 26088010 [PubMed - in process]

Long-Term Outcomes of the Maze Procedure Combined With Mitral Valve Repair: Risk of Thromboembolism Without Anticoagulation Therapy
Conclusions Adopting appropriate selection criteria for discontinuing anticoagulation therapy, the majority of patients receiving concomitant mitral repair and the Maze procedure can discontinue warfarin with excellent long-term safety profiles.

Routine aspiration thrombectomy improves the diagnosis and management of embolic myocardial infarction
ConclusionsRoutine aspiration thrombectomy more readily identifies embolic infarction allowing more specific therapy and avoidance of stenting and triple anticoagulant therapy. © 2015 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.

Long-term outcomes of angiographically confirmed coronary stent thrombosis: results from a multicentre California registry.
CONCLUSIONS: Age, active smoking, diabetes mellitus and bifurcation disease are independently associated with long-term MACCE over a five-year follow-up period. PMID: 26093838 [PubMed - in process]

Factors Related to Pump Thrombosis With the Heartmate II Left Ventricular Assist Device
ConclusionsThis analysis demonstrates low HMII thrombus events. Minimization of risk factors by uniform implant techniques and consistent post‐op management may reduce device thrombosis. A larger scale multicenter evaluation may better elucidate the difference in thrombus events between centers.

Decision-making in aortic root surgery in Marfan syndrome: bleeding, thromboembolism and risk of reintervention after valve-sparing or mechanical aortic root replacement AORTIC SURGERY
CONCLUSION The calculated annual failure rate after VSRR using the reimplantation technique was lower than the annual risk for thromboembolic or bleeding events. Since the perioperative risk of reinterventions following VSRR is low, patients might benefit from VSRR even if redo surgery may become necessary during follow-up.

The SYNERGY II Everolimus elutiNg stent In patients Older than 75 years undergoing coronary Revascularisation associated with a short dual antiplatelet therapy (SENIOR) trial: rationale and design of a large-scale randomised multicentre study.
CONCLUSIONS: This trial is designed to evaluate a new revascularisation strategy combining DES and short duration DAPT in elderly patients. It has the potential to decrease the need for target lesion revascularisation without a significant DAPT-related increase in bleeding compared to BMS. Artificial aortic valve dysfunction due to pannus and thrombus - different methods of cardiac surgical management.
CONCLUSIONS: Precise and modern diagnostic methods facilitated selection of the treatment method. However, the intraoperative view also seems to be crucial in individualizing the surgical approach. PMID: 26702274 [PubMed]
