Stroke after implantation of continuous flow left ventricular assist devices
ConclusionThe occurrence of stroke significantly increases morbidity and mortality after LVAD implantation. Despite an adverse impact on survival and quality of life, several patients who suffered stroke still received a heart transplant. Furthermore, none of our patients had recurrence of a neurological event. Strict implementation of anticoagulation protocols is likely the mainstay of preventing this devastating complication.

A review of the complex landscape of stroke in left ventricular assist device trials.
CONCLUSIONS: Based on this review, we propose that future clinical trials: 1) utilize standardized stroke definitions and define stroke subtypes, 2) ensure that neurologists are integrated in study design and event adjudication, 3) include more thorough evaluations of stroke etiology using multimodality techniques, and 4) adopt the National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale to define stroke severity. ConclusionsPrior stroke history was the only predictor of risk of post ‐PCI stroke. The noncerebrovascular adverse events were not increased after adjusted analyses of baseline characteristics and propensity analyses.

Acute stroke in patients undergoing coronary artery bypass grafting surgery in acute coronary syndrome: Predictors and outcomes
CONCLUSION: Based on our findings, acute stroke after bypass surgery in patients with ACS is associated with increased mortality and adverse outcomes. Cardiogenic shock, peripheral vascular disease and previous stroke were independent predictors of stroke after CABG procedure. Long-Term Risk of Ischemic Stroke After the Cox-Maze III Procedure for Atrial Fibrillation
Conclusions This multicenter study showed a low incidence of perioperative and long-term postoperative ischemic stroke/TIA after CM-III. Although general risk of ischemic stroke/TIA was reduced, patients with CHA2DS2-VASc score 2 or greater had a higher risk compared with score 0 or 1. Complete left atrial appendage excision may be an important reason for the low ischemic stroke rate.

Predictors and outcomes of stroke after transcatheter aortic valve replacement
ConclusionsAlternative access approach and a history of transient ischemic attack emerged as independent predictors of postoperative stroke. Patients with stroke suffered more complications and had worse survival, underscoring the importance of characterizing the stroke risk in these patients.
