Knowledge of Thrombolytic Therapy Amongst Hospital Staff: Preliminary Results and Treatment Implications Brief Reports
Conclusions— Hospital staff had adequate knowledge of stroke signs and symptoms; however, there was low awareness of thrombolysis therapy and its correct treatment time window among hospital staff. Targeted educational programmes among hospital staff regarding stroke are required to optimize acute stroke care.

Development Of A Simulated Patient Exercise To Improve Acute Stroke Care By Neurology Residents (S30.007)
CONCLUSIONS:Simulation exercises focusing on patient and family counseling may improve resident preparedness to deliver acute stroke care. These simulations may serve a role in more broad hospital-based quality improvement and educational interventions aimed at eliminating treatment delays for acute stroke.Study Supported by:University of Rochester Medical Center Dean's Teaching Fellowship Program and the Donald W. Management of ischemic stroke in the hyperacute phase.
Authors: Devos D, Sevin M, De Gaalon S, Lintia-Gaultier A, Guillon B Abstract Over the last 15 years, advances in acute ischemic stroke (AIS) management have led to a significant reduction in the morbidity and mortality related to this serious disease. This has resulted from progress in imaging technology, increased access to imaging procedures, enhanced coordination in stroke care from emergency departments to rehabilitation centers, development of organized inpatient stroke units, and to the widespread use of acute thrombolysis. Once the diagnosis of AIS is confirmed by neuroimaging, the etiological work up is co...

Advances in the Stroke System of Care
Opinion statement The stroke system of care is undergoing significant evolution. There are promising data to suggest that with new technologies and approaches, primary prevention and community education will become easier and more accessible, and will allow people to have greater participation in their own healthcare. The evidence-based primary and comprehensive stroke center concepts have been translated into robust, rapidly growing certification programs. The continued dissemination of improved EMS routing protocols allows for better allocation of patients to stroke centers, even as we confront the challenge of...

Outcome following hemicraniectomy in children with acute stroke in the International Pediatric Stroke Study (S46.002)
Conclusions:Hemicraniectomy in pediatric stroke is preformed infrequently. Death does occur in these children at a low rate of 5%. The majority of children had moderate to severe deficits. Overall children who have hemicraniectomies continue to have significant neurologic deficits following the procedure. Prospective studies are needed to examine long term morbidity following hemicraniectomy.Disclosure: Dr. Lehman has nothing to disclose. Abstract 235: Acute Care Measures of Rehabilitation Needs Associated with Discharge to Rehabilitation for Patients with Minor Stroke Poster Session II
Conclusions: Rehabilitation needs were documented for patients with minor stroke and almost one third were discharged to receive inpatient rehabilitation in an IRF or SNF. Taking pre-stroke disability into consideration for transition planning from acute care could facilitate earlier communication and planning with the next point of care.

Rural‐Urban Differences in Inpatient Quality of Care in US Veterans With Ischemic Stroke
ConclusionsAfter adjustment for key demographic, clinical, and facility‐level characteristics, there does not appear to be a systematic difference in inpatient stroke quality between rural and urban VAMCs. Future research should seek to understand the few differences in care found that could serve as targets for future quality improvement interventions.
