Outcome following hemicraniectomy in children with acute stroke in the International Pediatric Stroke Study (S46.002)

Conclusions:Hemicraniectomy in pediatric stroke is preformed infrequently. Death does occur in these children at a low rate of 5%. The majority of children had moderate to severe deficits. Overall children who have hemicraniectomies continue to have significant neurologic deficits following the procedure. Prospective studies are needed to examine long term morbidity following hemicraniectomy.Disclosure: Dr. Lehman has nothing to disclose.
