Tranexamic acid in a mouse model of cerebral amyloid angiopathy: setting the stage for a novel stroke treatment approach
CONCLUSION: Long-term TXA treatment does not alter brain Aβ levels or impact neurologic behavior in mice predisposed to amyloid deposition and had minor effects on the levels of inflammatory mediators. This finding supports the safety of TXA and lays the foundation for TXA as a novel treatment to reduce sICH in patients with CAA.PMID:37694270 | PMC:PMC10483050 | DOI:10.1016/j.rpth.2023.102166

Long-term outcomes of left atrial appendage occlusion in patients with atrial fibrillation and end stage renal disease
CONCLUSIONS: Long-term outcomes of LAAO therapy may be less favorable in patients with AF undergoing dialysis, possibly because of the poor condition of patients with ESRD.PMID:37394333 | DOI:10.1016/j.jfma.2023.06.016

Long-Term Effectiveness of Cilostazol in Patients with Hemodialysis with Peripheral Artery Disease
CONCLUSION: Continuous treatment of cilostazol in patients with HD with PAD significantly decreases the risk of ED visits, hemorrhagic stroke, and cardiovascular events and improves ED visit-free and cardiovascular event-free rates during long-term follow-up.PMID:36216573 | DOI:10.5551/jat.63404

Stroke propensity in the Th3+/ mouse model of β-thalassemia intermedia
Neurobiol Dis. 2022 Jun 23:105802. doi: 10.1016/j.nbd.2022.105802. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTβ-thalassemia is associated with multiple hematological and cerebrovascular symptoms linked to a hypercoagulable state that has not been fully replicated in animal models for the development of stroke treatments. Herein we compared the physiological properties and responses to transient cerebral hypoxia-ischemia (tHI) between six-month-old wildtype and heterozygous Th3/+ mice, a model of non-transfusion-dependent β-thalassemia intermedia (β-TI). We found that Th3/+ mice developed microcytic anemia, splenomegaly, higher plate...

Long-term outcomes of percutaneous left atrial appendage closure for the prevention of stroke in patients with atrial fibrillation: Asia-Pacific experience
CONCLUSION: This long-term follow-up study shows that percutaneous closure of LAA is a safe and technically feasible procedure with satisfactory outcomes in Asia. The procedure success rate, efficacy and adverse event were similar to those reported in the Caucasian populations.PMID:34799213 | DOI:10.1016/j.jfma.2021.10.010

Cerebral venous thrombosis following COVID-19 vaccination
We appreciate the literature review by Abdalkader et al.1 to summarize the clinical epidemiology and features of cerebral venous thrombosis (CVT) in patients with coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). Based on the meta-analysis performed by Baldini et al.,2 the estimated proportion of CVT cases among hospitalized patients with COVID-19 was 0.08%; therefore, it is not surprising that COVID-19 associated CVT had not been given much attention compared to the more common deep vein thrombosis and pulmonary embolism events in this patient population.

Anticoagulant approach in COVID-19 patients with cerebral venous thrombosis
We appreciate Klein et al. [1] for reporting the case of cerebral venous thrombosis accompanied by hemorrhagic infarct in a young patient with novel coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). The reporting of such a case would raise the awareness of the possibility of the occurrence of cerebral venous thrombosis in the course of COVID-19, especially among the young adults present with COVID-19 and neurological symptoms.

Novel oral anticoagulant vs. warfarin in elderly atrial fibrillation patients with normal, mid ‐range, and reduced left ventricular ejection fraction
ConclusionsIn elderly AF patients ≥65 years, using NOAC was associated with lower IS/SE compared with warfarin in normal and mid‐range LVEF but not in reduced LVEF. Using NOACs was associated with lower death compared with warfarin in normal LVEF.
