High AST/ALT Ratio Is Associated with Cardiac Involvement in Acute COVID-19 Patients
Conclusion: High AST/ALT ratio is related to impaired right ventricular function parameters with CMRI and echocardiography after recovery from acute COVID-19. Assessment of AST/ALT ratio at hospital admission may be used to assess the risk of cardiac involvement in COVID-19 disease, and these patients may require closer follow-up during and after the course of COVID-19.PMID:37374367 | PMC:PMC10305090 | DOI:10.3390/medicina59061163

Neutrophil percentage to albumin ratio is associated with stroke-associated pneumonia and poor outcome in patients with spontaneous intracerebral hemorrhage
ConclusionHigher NPAR is independently associated with SAP and poor functional outcome in patients with ICH. Our findings suggest that early prediction of SAP is feasible by using a simple biomarker NPAR.

Timing of Postoperative Stroke and Risk of Mortality After Noncardiac Surgery: A Cohort Study
CONCLUSIONS: Postoperative stroke tends to occur within 7 days following noncardiac surgery. Such timing of postoperative stroke carries a higher mortality risk, suggesting that targeted efforts to prevent stroke should focus on the first week following surgery to reduce the incidence and mortality associated with this complication. Our findings contribute to the growing understanding of stroke after noncardiac surgery and may help clinicians develop tailored perioperative neuroprotective strategies to prevent or improve treatment and outcomes of postoperative stroke.PMID:37303467 | PMC:PMC10251695 | DOI:10.14740/jocmr4877

Incidental Finding of Arteria Lusoria in COVID-19 Patient with Aortic Thrombus Complicated by Recurrent Limb Ischemia
We report the case of a 64-year-old woman with recent severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 pneumonia who was admitted to the hospital due to a giant floating thrombus in the ascending aorta with multiple ischemic events. Aortic computed tomography angiogram revealed an aberrant right subclavian artery associated with bicarotid trunk that might have protected carotid arteries from embol migration. Thrombosis is a rare clinical presentation in coronavirus disease 2019 infection but with serious complications that must be kept in mind to detect and avoid morbidities like ischemic stroke. Combined Role of Inflammatory Biomarkers and Red Blood Cell Distribution Width in Predicting In-hospital Outcomes of Acute Ischemic Stroke Patients undergoing Thrombolysis
CONCLUSIONS: Combined RDW and inflammatory biomarkers within 4.5 hours had a better predictive power for in-hospital outcomes of AIS patients with thrombolysis.PMID:37282646 | DOI:10.2174/1567202620666230606120439
