Causes of Death in Elderly Patients With Non-Valvular Atrial Fibrillation 　- Results From the ANAFIE Registry
CONCLUSIONS: This subanalysis described the mortality according to causes of death of Japanese elderly NVAF patients in the DOAC era. Prevalence of peripheral arterial disease, abdominal aortic aneurysm, and risk factors in the Hamburg City Health Study: A Cross-Sectional Analysis
CONCLUSION: In this large population-based cohort study of 10,000 subjects from Hamburg, Germany, a strikingly high prevalence of PAD was revealed. Almost 45% suffered from any index disease, while AAA was only diagnosed in 1.3% of males and 0.2% of females. The high prevalence of atherosclerotic disease and associated cardiovascular risk factors underline that it is essential to increase awareness and fuel efforts for secondary prevention.PMID:36634745 | DOI:10.1016/j.ejvs.2023.01.002

Outcomes and drivers of inappropriate dosing of non-vitamin K antagonist oral anticoagulants (NOACs) in patients with atrial fibrillation: a systematic review and meta-analysis
Conclusions Our analysis suggests that off-label underdosing of NOACs does not reduce bleeding outcomes. Patients prescribed off-label NOAC doses are at an increased risk of all-cause mortality. These data underscore the importance of prescriber adherence to NOAC dosing guidelines to achieve optimal clinical outcomes for patients with AF. PROSPERO registration number CRD42020219844.

Association of urinary nitrate with diabetes complication and disease-specific mortality among adults with hyperglycemia
CONCLUSIONS: Higher urinary nitrate is associated with lower risk of congestive heart failure and diabetic nephropathy, and lower risk of all-cause, CVD, and diabetes mortalities. Paroxysmal AV Block
A 69 year old woman with a history of congestive heart failure and stroke presented to the emergency room with sudden onset lightheadedness leading to a fall at the grocery store and sustaining head trauma. On physical examination, she was alert and in mild distress. Her HR was 72 beats per minute and blood pressure was 196/70. A 12 lead electrocardiogram (ECG) showed normal sinus rhythm, first degree atrioventricular (AV) block and right bundle branch block. She was admitted for management of subdural hematoma which was noted on CT scan.

Safety and efficacy of apixaban, dabigatran and rivaroxaban in obese and morbidly obese patients with heart failure and atrial fibrillation: A real ‐world analysis
ConclusionIn obese patients with congestive heart failure and atrial fibrillation or atrial flutter on DOACs, apixaban has the most favorable safety profile compared to rivaroxaban and dabigatran.

Hospitalizations in OSA patients
Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) is associated with cardiovascular comorbidities and other chronic diseases, accounting for long-term morbidity, with elevated symptomatic burden and hospitalizations. We aim to study the hospitalizations' causes in OSA patients and its relation to OSA severity and PAP therapy adhesion.This is a retrospective study including 281 hospitalizations corresponding to 200 OSA patients during 2019. Major Adverse Cardiovascular Events in Korean Congenital Heart Disease Patients: A Nationwide Age- and Sex-Matched Case-Control Study
CONCLUSION: In conclusion, this nationwide study demonstrates that Korean patients with CHD have a high incidence of comorbidities, vascular events, and mortality. CHD has been established as an important predictor of cardiovascular events.
