Cardiovascular disease and risk factors in adults with diabetes mellitus in Hungary: a population-based study
The objective of this study was to estimate the prevalence of CVD in individuals with DM and to investigate the association between potential risk factors and the presence of CVD among individuals with DM in a population-based sample.MethodsThe study was based on data from three waves of the European Health Interview Surveys (EHIS) conducted in Hungary in 2009, 2014, and 2019.ResultsThe prevalence of CVD among patients with DM decreased during the study period and that socioeconomic factors, cardiometabolic risk factors including high blood pressure and high cholesterol, and depression are major contributors to CVD burden ...

Potentially Inappropriate Medication Use Among Older Patients with Diabetes in a Chinese Community
Conclusions Given the higher rate of PIM use among older adults with diabetes, strategies and interventions targeting this population are needed to minimize PIM use. To support the use of NT-proBNP to better detect heart failure in patients with type 2 diabetes
ConclusionThese determinants might contribute to investigate the NT-proBNP in T2DM sufferers. A decision support system to appropriately ease the prescription of NT-proBNP might be therefore implemented in primary care settings.

Higher Risk of Incident Hyperthyroidism in Patients With Atrial Fibrillation
CONCLUSIONS: Our results provide insight into clinical risk factors for the development of hyperthyroidism in AF patients, as identified by the novel SAD HEC2 score. AF appears to be a common precursor of hyperthyroidism.PMID:37565329 | DOI:10.1210/clinem/dgad448

Women with PCOS have an increased risk for cardiovascular disease regardless of diagnostic criteria - a prospective population-based cohort study
CONCLUSIONS: PCOS should be considered a significant risk factor for CVD. Future follow-up will show how the risk of CVD events develops after menopausal age.PMID:37436934 | DOI:10.1093/ejendo/lvad077

A comparison in women with newly diagnosed diabetes between those with and without a history of gestational diabetes: a new perspective
ConclusionsWomen with previous GDM were a decade younger and had lower prevalence of hypertension at diagnosis of diabetes; C-peptide levels were associated with BMI, hypertension, and hyperlipidemia and showed a tendency to be lower, possibly indicating a phenotype with higher  risk of overt cardiovascular disease later in life.

Is increased myocardial triglyceride content associated with early changes in left ventricular function? A 1H-MRS and MRI strain study
ConclusionsPredicting MTGC remains a challenge in routine clinical practice, as only BMI independently correlates with increased MTGC. MTGC may play a role in LV dysfunction but does not appear to be involved in the development of subclinical strain abnormalities.

Oxidative stress in cerebrovascular disease and associated diseases
Cellular aging is the most severe risk factor for neurodegenerative disease. Simultaneously, oxidative stress (OS) is a critical factor in the aging process, resulting from an imbalance between reactive oxygen and nitrogen species and the antioxidant defense system. Emerging evidence indicates that OS is a common cause of several age-related brain pathologies, including cerebrovascular diseases. Elevated OS disrupts endothelial functional ability by diminishing the bioavailability of nitric oxide (a vascular dilator), induces atherosclerosis, and impairs vasculature, which are all common characteristics of cerebrovascular ...

Cardiovascular complications in insulin resistance and endocrine diseases
Endocr J. 2023 Feb 8. doi: 10.1507/endocrj.EJ22-0457. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTCerebrovascular diseases, such as stroke and cardiovascular disease, are one of the leading causes of death in Japan. Type 2 diabetes is the most common form of diabetes and an important risk factor for these diseases. Among various pathological conditions associated with type 2 diabetes, insulin resistance has already been reported to be an important risk factor for diabetic complications. The major sites of insulin action in glucose metabolism in the body include the liver, skeletal muscle, and adipose tissue. However, insulin signaling m...
