Optimal use of antithrombotic agents in ischemic stroke with atrial fibrillation and large artery atherosclerosis
CONCLUSION: This study demonstrated that OAC monotherapy was associated with lower risks of composite outcome and death in patients at 1-year after ischemic stroke due to AF and atherosclerotic stenosis. Vitamin E supplementation (alone or with other antioxidants) and stroke: a meta-analysis
CONCLUSIONS: Supplementation with vitamin E alone is not associated with stroke reduction. Instead, supplementation of vitamin E with other antioxidants reduces the incidence of ischemic stroke but increases the risk of hemorrhagic stroke, cancelling any beneficial effect derived. Liver enzymes and stroke risk in middle-aged German adults
Conclusions: Our data provide further evidence for a link between GGT, but not ALT and overall stroke suggesting that these biomarkers are involved in different pathways of disease development. Abstract 235: Acute Care Measures of Rehabilitation Needs Associated with Discharge to Rehabilitation for Patients with Minor Stroke Poster Session II
Conclusions: Rehabilitation needs were documented for patients with minor stroke and almost one third were discharged to receive inpatient rehabilitation in an IRF or SNF. Taking pre-stroke disability into consideration for transition planning from acute care could facilitate earlier communication and planning with the next point of care.

Abstract 238: Utilization and Safety of a Heparin Nomogram in Treating Thrombotic Comorbidities in Stroke Patients Poster Session II
CONCLUSION: The heparin stroke nomogram appears safe in that it does not increase risk of ICH. However, therapeutic aPTTs are not reached quickly with less than half of patients therapeutic at 24 hours, nor are they maintained at steady state. This nomogram could be too conservative in cases where clinical situation requires rapid anticoagulation.

Conclusion Stroke-related care for IS, HS, and TIA is costly, especially among individuals with AF. Reducing the risk of AF-related stroke is important from both clinical and economic standpoints.

Increased Risk of Acute Myocardial Infarction and Stroke During Hemorrhagic Fever with Renal Syndrome: A Self-Controlled Case Series Study.
CONCLUSIONS: There is a significantly increased risk for AMI and stroke in the immediate time period following HFRS. Therefore HFRS patients should be carefully monitored during the acute phase of disease to ensure early recognition of symptoms of impending AMI or stroke. Effects of Batroxobin with Continuous Transcranial Doppler Monitoring in Patients with Acute Cerebral Stroke: A Randomized Controlled Trial
Our objective was to determine whether continuous transcranial Doppler (TCD) monitoring could safely enhance the efficacy of batroxobin, a thrombin‐like enzyme extracted from Bothrops atrox moojeni venom, in the treatment for acute cerebral stroke beyond the thrombolytic time window. Validity of Claims-Based Stroke Algorithms in Contemporary Medicare Data: Reasons for Geographic and Racial Differences in Stroke (REGARDS) Study Linked With Medicare Claims Methods Paper
Conclusions— Claims-based algorithms to identify stroke in a contemporary Medicare cohort had high positive predictive value and specificity, supporting their use as outcomes for etiologic and comparative effectiveness studies in similar populations. These inpatient algorithms are unsuitable for estimating stroke incidence because of low sensitivity.

Abstract Numerous data have pointed to an association between migraine and cardiovascular diseases. The majority of the available data have indicated that migraine with aura can be considered a risk factor for ischemic stroke, whereas migraine without aura cannot be reliably considered as such. Abstract 6: Treatment Effect of Clopidogrel Plus Aspirin Within 12 Hours of Acute Minor Stroke or TIA Session Title: Abstract Oral Session: Outcomes
Conclusions: Among patients treated within 12 hours, the combination of clopidogrel and aspirin was more effective than aspirin alone in reducing the risk of recurrent ischemic stroke during the 90-day follow-up and did not increase the hemorrhagic risk. Conclusion: Proprioceptive neuromuscular facilitation exercises are very effective in generating voluntary control and improving functional activities of daily living if given from the first day of stroke. For improvement in arm function the intervention should be started first from scapula.
