Post-traumatic trigeminal neuropathy: correlation between objective and subjective assessments and a prediction model for neurosensory recovery
ConclusionsWe found a strong correlation of subjective well-being with the presence of brush stroke allodynia, thermal and/or mechanical hyperesthesia, and the size of the neuropathic area. These results suggest that positive symptoms dominate the effect on affect. In patients reporting poor subjective well-being in the absence of positive symptoms or a large neuropathic area, additional attention towards psychosocial triggers might enhance treatment outcome. The prediction model could contribute to establishing realistic expectations about the likelihood of neurosensory recovery but remains to be validated in future studies.

Vagus nerve stimulation enhances fear extinction as an inverted-U function of stimulation intensity
Exp Neurol. 2021 Apr 9:113718. doi: 10.1016/j.expneurol.2021.113718. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTStudies in rodents indicate that pairing vagus nerve stimulation (VNS) with extinction training enhances fear extinction. However, the role of stimulation parameters on the effects of VNS remains largely unknown. Identifying the optimal stimulation intensity is a critical step in clinical translation of neuromodulation-based therapies. Here, we sought to investigate the role of stimulation intensity in rats receiving VNS paired with extinction training in a rat model for Posttraumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). Male Sprague-Dawl...

Suicide Following Stroke in the United States Veterans Health Administration Population
In the United States (US), suicide is a leading cause of death, and most of these suicides involve firearms, highlighting the importance of lethal means safety in suicide prevention.(1, 2) US Veterans experience a suicide rate 1.5 times higher than US civilian adults and are more likely to use firearms as the means of suicide.(3) Risk factors for suicide within this population include demographic factors such as sex, age, race, and level of education, as well as health factors such as smoking status, psychiatric conditions (e.g., posttraumatic stress disorder [PTSD], depression, bipolar and anxiety disorders, schizophrenia...

Analgesic hypnotic treatment in a post-stroke patient
Am J Clin Hypn. 2021 Jan;63(3):192-201. doi: 10.1080/00029157.2020.1797622.ABSTRACTIn recent years, hypnotic suggestions have been used in several clinical conditions. This treatment is often used for anxiety treatment, somatization, and post-traumatic stress disorder. Hypnotic analgesia is one of the most clinically useful phenomena of hypnosis. The article describes the case of a patient who underwent hypnotic treatments for hypersensitivity and chronic pain. Results showed an improvement of pain control and a decrease of pain hypersensibility. In addition, during rehabilitative treatments, the patient reported a high le...
