E-224 Bilateral external carotid artery sacrifice in massive refractory hemorrhage of the pharynx: a case report
This report suggests that bilateral ECA embolization may be safe in acute settings. In this report, the bleeding did not respond to conservative or surgical management and ECA embolization was used as a life-saving procedure in order to stop massive bleeding. Bilateral external carotid artery embolization is rarely employed because of the high risk of facial necrosis. Additionally, ECAs are also assumed to serve as potential blood reservoirs, particularly in the case of ICA occlusion where the ipsilateral ECA can significantly contribute to intracranial blood flow via collaterals. However, in this report, no complications ...

Collaborative Integration of Palliative Care in Critically Ill Stroke Patients in the Neurocritical Care Unit: A Single Center Pilot Study
Patients admitted to the Neurocritical Care Unit (NCCU) with moderate-to-severe acute strokes, along with their surrogate decision makers, have the potential for unrecognized or unmet emotional and psychological needs. Our primary objective was to determine if early integration of palliative care consultations within this cohort was feasible and would impact understanding, decision-making and emotional support to patients and their surrogate decision makers. Our secondary objective was to evaluate the long-term impact of early palliative care assessment on the development of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).

Functional seizures are associated with cerebrovascular disease and functional stroke is more common in patients with functional seizures than epileptic seizures
CONCLUSION: Our results confirm the initial observation of increased CVD in patients with FSe and further suggest that patients with FSe may be predisposed to developing another functional neurological disorder (FND) (i.e., functional stroke). We speculate that this may be due to shared risk factors and pathophysiological processes that are common to various manifestations of FND.PMID:35123242 | DOI:10.1016/j.yebeh.2022.108582
