Eye movement desensitization and reprocessing for post-stroke post-traumatic stress disorder: Case report using the three-phase approach
Brain Inj. 2022 Nov 13:1-10. doi: 10.1080/02699052.2022.2140833. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTMedically-induced post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is substantially more prevalent than PTSD in the general population. In people with stroke, it can impact as many as 23% of patients, with negative effects on mental health as well as stroke-related disability. Medically-induced PTSD may have unique features compared to other forms of PTSD, and therefore there is a pressing need to evaluate existing treatments for PTSD in this context. The current study reports on the feasibility, safety, and efficacy of Eye Movement Desensi...

14 Saving Adam from the apple: using transcranial magnetic stimulation as a transdiagnostically relevant tool to decrease cue-reactivity
Professor Hanlon’s scientific research has been to map neural circuit irregularities in substance dependent populations and then modulate these circuits using brain stimulation techniques or neurofeedback. She is leading NIH-funded research directed at longitudinal investigations of neural connectivity in cocaine & alcohol dependent individuals undergoing substance abuse treatment, & developing patient-tailored brain stimulation protocols which may either enhance cognitive control or attenuate craving in treatment seeking individuals. Her trainees & collaborators are pioneering non-invasive neuromodulator...

Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder after Stroke: A Systematic Review
Conclusions: PTSD is common after stroke. Further research is needed to clarify its time course and identify the neurochemical factors and brain circuits associated with the development of post-stroke PTSD. Randomized controlled treatment trials targeting PTSD in stroke are warranted.

Leveraging Large-Scale Genetics of PTSD and Cardiovascular Disease to Demonstrate Robust Shared Risk and Improve Risk Prediction Accuracy
CONCLUSIONS: The results from this study suggest that PTSD and CVD may share genetic risk. Further, these results implicate PTSD as a risk factor leading to the development of hypertension and coronary artery disease. Additional research is needed to determine the clinical utility of these findings.PMID:36069022 | DOI:10.1176/appi.ajp.21111113
