Neurovascular Outcomes in Relation With Carotid Artery Stenosis in Patients Undergoing Transcatheter Aortic Valve Implantation
CONCLUSIONS: CAS is common among TAVI patients. While CAS as a whole was not a predictor of neurovascular complications, the subgroup of bilateral CAS was associated with an increased risk of stroke.PMID:36705606

Role of G-Proteins and GPCRs in Cardiovascular Pathologies
Bioengineering (Basel). 2023 Jan 6;10(1):76. doi: 10.3390/bioengineering10010076.ABSTRACTCell signaling is a fundamental process that enables cells to survive under various ecological and environmental contexts and imparts tolerance towards stressful conditions. The basic machinery for cell signaling includes a receptor molecule that senses and receives the signal. The primary form of the signal might be a hormone, light, an antigen, an odorant, a neurotransmitter, etc. Similarly, heterotrimeric G-proteins principally provide communication from the plasma membrane G-protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs) to the inner compartmen...

Vascular Surgery In Low- And Middle- Income Countries: A State-of-the-art Review
Cardiovascular disease (CVD) represents 32% of all global deaths. Estimates project an increase in CVD mortality with the most substantial increase in low- and middle- income countries (LMICs). Within LMICs, we sought to 1) measure the burden of CVD with respect to aortic aneurysm (AA), ischemic stroke (IS), and peripheral artery disease (PAD); 2) quantify surgical access to vascular surgery services.

Elevated LDL Triglycerides and Atherosclerotic Risk
CONCLUSIONS: Elevated LDL triglycerides were robustly associated with an increased risk of ASCVD and of each ASCVD component individually in 2 prospective cohort studies and in meta-analyses of previous and present studies combined.PMID:36631208 | DOI:10.1016/j.jacc.2022.10.019

Inadequate response to antiplatelet therapy in patients with peripheral artery disease: a prospective cohort study
CONCLUSIONS: Patients suffering from cardiovascular events and mortality were characterized by prior cardiovascular events as compared to patients who did not experience any events. Antiplatelet therapy was not optimally protective despite high medication adherence, and HTPR was independently associated with the occurrence of events. More research is needed on alternative treatment strategies such as dual antiplatelet therapy or combinations with anticoagulant drugs.TRIAL REGISTRATION: The Medical Ethics Committee (METC) of the MUMC+ approved the study (NL63235.068.17) and the study was registered in the Netherlands Trial ...

Consumption of unprocessed or minimally processed foods and their association with cardiovascular events and cardiometabolic risk factors in Brazilians with established cardiovascular events
Int J Food Sci Nutr. 2023 Jan 9:1-13. doi: 10.1080/09637486.2023.2164922. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTConsumption of food in its natural form has an inverse relationship with cardiometabolic risk factors; however, the relationship between consumption of unprocessed or minimally processed foods and the presence of cardiovascular diseases (CVD) remains unclear in individuals receiving secondary care for CVD. Thus, we aimed to evaluate the association between the consumption of unprocessed or minimally processed foods and the presence of CVD and cardiometabolic risk factors in individuals with established CVD. Baseline data...
