Predictors of Thrombolysis Administration in Mild Stroke Clinical Sciences
Conclusions—Mild acutely presenting stroke patients are more likely to receive thrombolysis if they are young, white, or Hispanic and arrive early to the hospital with more severe neurological presentation. Identification of predictors of thrombolysis is important in design of future studies to assess the use of thrombolysis for mild stroke.

Long-Term Prognosis of Patients With Transient Ischemic Attack or Stroke and Symptomatic Vascular Disease in Multiple Arterial Beds Clinical Sciences
Background and Purpose—Cerebrovascular, coronary, and peripheral vascular disease have common underlying arterial pathology and risk factors, but the clinical significance of multiple-territory disease in patients with transient ischemic attack (TIA)/ischemic stroke is unclear, particularly whether the number of clinically affected territories still predicts long-term outcome on current standard secondary prevention therapies. Methods—In a population-based study of 92 728 individuals in Oxfordshire, United Kingdom (Oxford Vascular Study), we studied patients presenting with TIA/ischemic stroke (2002–2014) in relatio...

Efficacy and Safety of Vorapaxar in Patients With Prior Ischemic Stroke Clinical Sciences
Conclusions— In patients with prior ischemic stroke who receive standard antiplatelet therapy, adding vorapaxar increased the risk of intracranial hemorrhage without an improvement in major vascular events, including ischemic stroke. These findings add to the accumulating evidence establishing important risks with combination antiplatelet therapy in patients with prior stroke. Rates and predictors of risk of stroke and its subtypes in diabetes: a prospective observational study
Conclusions Older people with a history of stroke were at highest risk of stroke, but the prognosis and prognostic factors of subtypes were heterogeneous. The results will help clinicians quantify the absolute risk of stroke and its subtypes for typical diabetes patients.

Women Had Worse Stroke Outcome (P1.217)
Conclusion: in our cohort women have worst post-stroke outcome, even though they have higher burden of vascular risk factors they have lower prevalence of vascular disease in other vascular beds previous to stroke. This difference persists after adjusting by age, raising the possibility of specific gender risk factors influencing on ischemic stroke outcomes.Disclosure: Dr. Zurru has nothing to disclose. Predictors Of Early Mortality And Bad Outcome In Ischemic Stroke (P3.072)
Conclusion: identifying predictors of early mortality or post-stroke disability is mandatory in order to recognize opportunities of improvement and develop strategies for clinical care in this specific subgroup of patients. A multidisciplinary approach is essential to reduce clinical complications and to improve follow up after the hospitalization period.Disclosure: Dr. Luzzi has nothing to disclose. Venous Thromboembolism in the Get With The Guidelines-Stroke Acute Ischemic Stroke Population: Incidence and Patterns of Prophylaxis
Conclusions: Despite a high overall rate of VTE prophylaxis, VTE was found to occur in approximately 3% of GWTG-S patients. Reported rates of VTE prophylaxis differed among hospitals by region and hospital type, and among patients by age, race, and medical comorbidities.

Predictive impact of daily physical activity on new vascular events in patients with mild ischemic stroke
ConclusionOur data indicate that daily physical activity evaluated by step counts may be useful for forecasting the prognosis in patients with mild ischemic stroke. Daily step counts of approximately 6000 steps per day may be an initial target level for reducing new vascular events.

Anemia on admission predicts short‐ and long‐term outcomes in patients with acute ischemic stroke
ConclusionAnemia is common among AIS patients and is associated with cardiovascular comorbidities. Low hemoglobin status independently predicts short and long‐term mortality.

Clinical Prediction Model Suitable for Assessing Hospital Quality for Patients Undergoing Carotid Endarterectomy Stroke
Conclusions The NCDR CEA score, comprising 7 clinical variables, predicts in-hospital stroke or death after CEA. This model can be used to estimate hospital risk-adjusted outcomes for CEA and to assist with the assessment of hospital quality.

Prevalence and Clinical Features of Asymptomatic Peripheral Artery Disease in Japanese Stroke Patients
Background: A recent worldwide disease registration study has revealed a high prevalence of polyvascular diseases in stroke patients. However, although a poor clinical outcome of patients with polyvascular disease has been reported, there have been few reports on clinical features of peripheral artery disease (PAD) in stroke patients. We assessed the prevalence, demographics, characteristics, and risk factors of PAD in Japanese stroke patients. Methods: One hundred and one consecutive chronic stroke patients in an outpatient clinic underwent ankle-brachial index (ABI) screening tests. PAD was diagnosed when the ABI was

Comment: The benefits of antiplatelets on stroke-- More arguments to keep patients adherent
The role of antiplatelet agents in stroke prevention is well documented, especially for secondary prevention, but many patients with no previous stroke but with other risk factors (high cardiovascular risk, women with diabetes mellitus, chronic kidney disease, peripheral artery disease, or asymptomatic carotid stenosis) can also benefit. The findings of Jung et al.1 are therefore clinically relevant and can be used to reassure patients that even if antiplatelet agents fail to prevent stroke, they can mitigate its severity. Although it is an observational study, a randomized trial to test the effect of antiplatelet agents o...
