Clinical Prediction Model Suitable for Assessing Hospital Quality for Patients Undergoing Carotid Endarterectomy Stroke

Conclusions The NCDR CEA score, comprising 7 clinical variables, predicts in-hospital stroke or death after CEA. This model can be used to estimate hospital risk-adjusted outcomes for CEA and to assist with the assessment of hospital quality.

Background: Nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) and HIV are independently associated with cardiovascular disease (CVD). However, the factors associated with NAFLD in persons living with HIV (PWH) and whether CVD is more frequent in PWH with NAFLD are currently unknown. Methods: From the Partners HealthCare Research Patient Data Registry, we identified PWH with and without NAFLD between 2010 and 2017. NAFLD was defined using validated histological or radiographic criteria. CVD was defined by an ICD-9 diagnosis of coronary artery disease, myocardial infarction, coronary revascularization, peripheral vascular diseas...

AbstractIntroductionThe results of recently completed cardiovascular outcomes trials in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) suggest that sodium-glucose cotransporter-2 (SGLT2) inhibitors and glucagon-like peptide (GLP) 1 receptor agonists have enhanced cardioprotective properties in patients with established cardiovascular disease (eCVD), but to a lesser degree in those without eCVD. SGLT2 inhibitors appear to be particularly beneficial in patients with heart failure. As recent data for the UK are lacking, we undertook to identify the percentage of T2DM patients with eCVD and heart failure in the UK.MethodsThis w...

Authors: Abdaly MS, Azizi MS, Wijaya IP, Nugroho P, Purnamasari D Abstract Cardiovascular disease (CVD) remain a leading cause of death globally. The concept of acute myocardial infarction in young adults was uncommon. Atherosclerosis is the leading cause of CVD, including myocardial infarction, stroke, heart failure and peripheral artery disease. This condition is initiated early in childhood and progressive in nature. CVD risk factors includes hypertension, dyslipidemia and obesity play a role in the development of atherosclerosis and  components in insulin resistance syndrome. One of many risk factors for in...

ConclusionsThe multivariate logistic regression analysis showed that the D allele in the promoter region of the VEGF gene is an independent risk factor of DR irrespective of other laboratory and clinical variables in T2DM patients. Our study suggests that I/D allele in the studied gene is associated with HF and strokes.

Yet, robust clinical trial evidence that triglyceride (TG) lowering therapy reduces cardiovascular events remains elusive. The selec...

AbstractBackgroundSchizophrenia constitutes a high risk of morbidity and mortality from physical illness. Individuals with comorbid schizophrenia and diabetes mellitus have been found to have a three- to four-fold higher rate of death than the general population, which may be explained by a higher rate of diabetic complications. We aimed to study incidence of diabetic complications diagnosed in hospitals following a diabetes diagnosis and subsequent mortality in individuals with schizophrenia compared to individuals without.MethodsThe entire Danish population was followed in 1997 –2016 using population-based registri...
