Peripheral Vascular Disease and Carotid Artery Disease Are Associated with Decreased Bile Acid Excretion
This study investigated BAE in patients with peripheral vascular disease (PVD) and carotid artery disease (CA) and those without these diseases, compared to patients with CAD, stroke, or no evidence of atherosclerosis. Patients with complaints of chest pain-suspected CAD, syncope, stroke/TIA, severe headache, intermittent claudication, or falls were enrolled. All received a 4-day standard diet with 490 mg of cholesterol and internal standard copper thiocyanate. Fecal BAE was measured using gas-liquid chromatography. One hundred and three patients, sixty-eight (66%) men and thirty-five women (34%), mean age range 60.9 ± 8....

Differences in major limb outcomes by indication for lower extremity endovascular revascularization in patients receiving hemodialysis
This study is to determine whether indication of PAD has a distinct impact on major adverse cardiovascular and cerebrovascular events (MACCE) and limb events in patients receiving hemodialysis. The current study included 2321 prospectively enrolled patients from the Tokyo taMA peripheral vascular intervention research ComraDE registry (UMIN-CTR no. UMIN000015100) between September 2014 and December 2016. Out of the enrolled patients, 1644 were not receiving hemodialysis (non-HD patients) and 603 were receiving hemodialysis (HD patients). A composite of all-cause death, myocardial infarction, and stroke events defined as MA...

Inadequate response to antiplatelet therapy in patients with peripheral artery disease: a prospective cohort study
CONCLUSIONS: Patients suffering from cardiovascular events and mortality were characterized by prior cardiovascular events as compared to patients who did not experience any events. Antiplatelet therapy was not optimally protective despite high medication adherence, and HTPR was independently associated with the occurrence of events. More research is needed on alternative treatment strategies such as dual antiplatelet therapy or combinations with anticoagulant drugs.TRIAL REGISTRATION: The Medical Ethics Committee (METC) of the MUMC+ approved the study (NL63235.068.17) and the study was registered in the Netherlands Trial ...

Vascular disease and apathy symptoms in the very old: A cross-sectional and longitudinal meta-analysis of individual participant data
CONCLUSIONS: Vascular disease in the very old is associated with apathy symptoms cross-sectionally, but not proven longitudinally, independent of depressive symptoms. These findings query a vascular cause underlying apathy symptoms. However, the consistency of our cross-sectional findings in direction and magnitude across the TULIPS-consortium do emphasize international relevance of the interplay of vascular factors and apathy in advanced age, which meaning needs further unravelling.PMID:36317267 | DOI:10.1002/gps.5831

Plasma Gut Microbe-Derived Metabolites Associated with Peripheral Artery Disease and Major Adverse Cardiac Events
This study identifies specific indole- and phenyl-derived species impacted by gut microbial metabolic pathways that could represent novel microbiome-related biomarkers of PAD.PMID:36296342 | DOI:10.3390/microorganisms10102065

Performance of SCORE2 and SCORE2-OP risk algorithms in a Cypriot cohort
CONCLUSIONS: SCORE2 and SCORE2-OP moderate risk algorithms performs well in the Cypriot population for predicting the 10-year risk for MI, stroke and fatal cardiovascular disease. However, an estimate of the 10-year risk for all ASCVD events is best calculated from the high-risk algorithm.PMID:36285529 | DOI:10.23736/S0392-9590.22.04958-6
