Impact of aphasia on communication in couples.
CONCLUSION & IMPLICATIONS: The results describe some of the consequences of aphasia on communication in couples. Clinicians could use interviews to understand the impact of aphasia on a couple's communication. Measuring Lexical Diversity for Discourse Analysis in Aphasia: Moving-Average Type-Token Ratio and Word Information Measure.
Conclusions The WIM and the MATTR are promising measures that quantify lexical diversity in different and complementary ways. The WIM may be more useful for quantifying the effect of treatment or disease progression, whereas the MATTR may be more useful for discriminating discourse produced by people with very mild aphasia from discourse produced by neurotypical controls. Charlie Chaplin and gesture training in severe aphasia: a randomized double-blind single-case experimental design
Conclusions. Mute films that use intensive non-verbal communication may be a useful add-on to speech therapy for individuals with aphasia. Improving naming in severe and chronic aphasia may not be feasible, and more effort could be devoted to improving gesture-based and non-verbal communication.

The effect of augmented speech-language therapy delivered by telerehabilitation on poststroke aphasia-a pilot randomized controlled trial.

Technology-Enhanced Reading Therapy for People With Aphasia: Findings From a Quasirandomized Waitlist Controlled Study.
Conclusions Technology-assisted reading comprehension improved following the intervention, with treatment compensating for, rather than remediating, the reading impairment. Participants' confidence and emotions associated with reading also improved. Gains were achieved after 14 therapy sessions, using assistive technologies that are widely available and relatively affordable, meaning that this approach could be implemented in clinical practice. Brain-Derived Neurotrophic Factor Genotype-Specific Differences in Cortical Activation in Chronic Aphasia.
Conclusion BDNF genotype mediates cortical brain activation in individuals with chronic aphasia. Correspondingly, individuals carrying the Met allele present with more severe aphasia compared to noncarriers. These findings warrant further study into the effects of BDNF genotype in aphasia. A Taxonomy of Brain-Behavior Relationships After Stroke.
Conclusions Organizing the various hypothesized brain-behavior relationships according to this framework and considering the mechanisms that drive these relationships may help investigators develop specific experimental designs and more complete statistical models to explain language and cognitive abilities after stroke. Neurocognitive Recovery of Sentence Processing in Aphasia.
Conclusions Sentence processing treatment results in improved comprehension and production of complex syntactic structures in chronic agrammatism and generalization to less complex, linguistically related structures in chronic agrammatism.
