Supporting Post-Stroke Language and Cognition with Pharmacotherapy: Tools for Each Phase of Care
AbstractPurpose of ReviewThere is enormous enthusiasm for the possibility of pharmacotherapies to treat language deficits that can arise after stroke. Speech language therapy remains the most frequently utilized and most strongly evidenced treatment, but the numerous barriers to patients receiving the therapy necessary to recover have motivated the creation of a relatively modest, yet highly cited, body of evidence to support the use of pharmacotherapy to treat post-stroke aphasia directly or to augment traditional post-stroke aphasia treatment. In this review, we survey the use of pharmacotherapy to preserve and support l...

The Feasibility and Benefits of a Virtual Yoga Practice for Stroke Survivors With Aphasia
CONCLUSIONS: This study is an important first step in confirming the feasibility of an adapted, aphasia-friendly yoga program offered via a remote platform for people with aphasia. The findings support recent work suggesting that yoga may be a potent adjunct to traditional rehabilitation efforts to improve resilience and psychosocial aspects in persons with aphasia.SUPPLEMENTAL MATERIAL: https://doi.org/10.23641/asha.22688125.PMID:37130156 | DOI:10.1044/2023_AJSLP-22-00269

Effect and safety of C7 neurotomy at the intervertebral foramen in patients with chronic poststroke aphasia: a multicentre, randomised, controlled study protocol
This study will explore the efficacy of NC7 at the intervertebral foramen for improving chronic poststroke aphasia. Methods and analysis This study protocol reports a multicentre, randomised, assessor-blinded active-controlled trial. A total of 50 patients with chronic poststroke aphasia for over 1 year and with a aphasia quotient calculated by Western Aphasia Battery Aphasia Quotient (WAB-AQ) score below 93.8 will be recruited. Participants will be randomly assigned to 1 of 2 groups (25 individuals each) to receive NC7 plus intensive speech and language therapy (iSLT), or iSLT alone programme. The primary outcome is the ...

Effectiveness of Constraint-Induced Language Therapy for Aphasia: Evidence From Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses
CONCLUSIONS: CILT led to improvements in a variety of language and communication measures. When compared with intensive multimodality treatments, CILT effects were similar, suggesting that training intensity may be the potent factor in CILT outcomes. Future SRs should be implemented with increased rigor across quality rating scale domains to increase confidence in conclusions.PMID:36668725 | DOI:10.1044/2022_AJSLP-22-00248
