Low (0 –5) Alberta Stroke Program Early Computed Tomography Score on admission predictive of worse functional outcome after mechanical thrombectomy for anterior circulation large vessel occlusion
ConclusionsASPECTS values  ≤ 5 correspond with worse long-term functional improvement (mRS scores >  2) in patients undergoing MT for ACLVO-related AIS. Other independent determinants of functional outcomes after MT are age, baseline NIHSS score, HbA1c concentration, and successful recanalization.

Type 2 diabetes mellitus, atherosclerosis, and ischemic stroke: Histopathological changes of the brain
Background and Aims: Type 2 diabetes mellitus is associated with a marked increase in the risk of atherosclerotic diseases, including cerebrovascular disease. Atherosclerosis and ischemic stroke in diabetic patients occur 4 times more often than in the general population. Our aim was to investigate the brain tissue of patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus who died from ischemic stroke.

Limb and cardiovascular event risk in type 1 and 2 diabetic patients with peripheral artery disease
Conclusions: PAD patients with T1DM had a higher LE risk than those with T2DM, even after adjustment for glycemic control and pertinent risk factors, but CVE risk and all-cause mortality were equivocal. These data suggest a potential role for more intensive LE risk modification in PAD patients with T1DM, but further investigation is needed.PMID:37519117 | DOI:10.1024/0301-1526/a001086

Trends of frequency, mortality and risk factors among patients admitted with stroke from 2017 to 2019 to the medical ward at Kilimanjaro Christian Medical Centre hospital: a retrospective observational study
Conclusion The burden of stroke on individuals and health services is increasing over time, which reflects a lack of awareness on the cause of stroke and effective preventive measures. Prioritising interventions directed towards the reduction of non-communicable diseases and associated complications, such as stroke, is urgently needed.

Elevated Aminotransferase Levels and Intracerebral Hemorrhage Deaths in a General Japanese Population
Int Heart J. 2023;64(4):678-683. doi: 10.1536/ihj.23-027.ABSTRACTAlthough chronic liver disease has been associated with cardiovascular disease, to which metabolic syndrome might be related, intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH) generally has not been focused. Associations of chronic liver disease assessed by aspartate (AST) and alanine (ALT) aminotransferase levels with ICH deaths were examined using 15,952 subjects without a history of cardiovascular disease who underwent annual health checkups in 1997 in Japan. Proportional hazards regression analyses adjusted for age, sex, hypertension, current smoking, diabetes mellitus, dri...

Peripheral artery disease: Update on etiology, pathophysiology, diagnosis and treatment
Med Clin (Barc). 2023 Jul 28:S0025-7753(23)00361-5. doi: 10.1016/j.medcli.2023.06.005. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTPeripheral artery disease (PAD) is a condition related to atherosclerosis affecting >200 million people worldwide, and it increases cardiovascular morbidity (mainly from myocardial infarction and stroke) and mortality. Indeed, PAD patients are classified as patients at very high cardiovascular risk. The most common manifestation of PAD is intermittent claudication, which is associated with reduced mobility and leg pain. Nevertheless, asymptomatic PAD is the most frequent form of PAD worldwide; therefore, ...
