Integrative-interpersonal dynamic therapy for poststroke depression (INID): study protocol of a randomised controlled pilot trial
Introduction Depression is the most frequent psychiatric disorder following stroke, affecting about one-third of stroke survivors. Patients experience poorer recovery, lower quality of life and higher mortality compared with stroke survivors without depression. Despite these well-known malign consequences, poststroke depression (PSD) is regarded underdiagnosed and undertreated. Evidence of beneficial effects of psychotherapy to treat PSD remains scarce and inconclusive and is limited by heterogeneity in design, content and timing of the intervention. This pilot study aims to assess the feasibility of a newly developed inte...

Psychometric properties of Indonesian version of sleep condition indicator for screening poststroke insomnia
CONCLUSION: The study results revealed that the 8-item ISCI is a reliable and valid screening tool for detecting insomnia symptoms according to the DSM-5 criteria in the chronic period after stroke.PMID:36854859 | DOI:10.1007/s11325-023-02797-1

Self-reported efficacy in patient-physician interaction in relation to anxiety, patient activation, and health-related quality of life among stroke survivors
CONCLUSIONS: Higher self-efficacy in patient-physician interaction was associated with higher patient activation and mental health status among stroke survivors using smartwatches. Furthermore, we found no association between anxiety and smartwatch prescription for AF in participants with high self-efficacy in patient-physician interaction. Efforts to improve self-efficacy in patient-physician interaction may improve patient activation and self-rated health and subsequently may lead to better clinical outcomes.KEY MESSAGESHigher self-efficacy in patient-physician interaction was associated with higher patient activation an...

Eye movement desensitization and reprocessing for post-stroke post-traumatic stress disorder: Case report using the three-phase approach
Brain Inj. 2022 Nov 13:1-10. doi: 10.1080/02699052.2022.2140833. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTMedically-induced post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is substantially more prevalent than PTSD in the general population. In people with stroke, it can impact as many as 23% of patients, with negative effects on mental health as well as stroke-related disability. Medically-induced PTSD may have unique features compared to other forms of PTSD, and therefore there is a pressing need to evaluate existing treatments for PTSD in this context. The current study reports on the feasibility, safety, and efficacy of Eye Movement Desensi...

The efficacy and safety of Jin's three-needle therapy vs. placebo acupuncture on anxiety symptoms in patients with post-stroke anxiety: A study protocol for a randomized controlled trial
This study firstly verifies the real effectiveness of JTNT. Besides, the changes in serum indexes on the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis (HPA axis) are observed dynamically by the Enzyme-Linked ImmunoSorbent Assay (ELISA). The activation of different brain regions by JTNT is recorded using resting functional magnetic resonance imaging (rs-fMRI). Therefore, we can provide more practical and powerful evidence-based medical evidence for clinical decisions.MethodThis is a 16 week parallel, single-blind, random, controlled trial, including baseline, 4 weeks of treatment, and 12 weeks of follow-up. A total of 114 participant...

What Causes Sudden Vision Loss?
Discussion Vision loss, whether chronic or acute, is distressing at any time for patients and families. Prompt evaluation and treatment are important as maintenance of any acuity and light or movement is considered paramount. Most vision loss is due to chronic problems and aging issues but the differential diagnosis is broad. For any age, but especially children, uncorrected refractive errors can cause problems in not only in childhood but throughout someone’s lifetime. Visual impairment for distance vision is considered mild if worse than 6/12 in meters = 20/40 in feet or 0.3 LogMAR and for moderate impairment is 6/...
