Cardiovascular comorbidities in psoriatic arthritis: epidemiology and risk factors in two different European populations
CONCLUSIONS: The prevalence of AH, T2D and CV diseases were higher in Italian patients rather than Belgians. Moreover, among patients with PsA, the risk of AH was higher in the Italian cohort compared to the Belgian cohort. These results suggest that further research is needed to evaluate potential extrinsic factors (geography and sociocultural aspects) that may contribute to CV risk.PMID:36826796 | DOI:10.55563/clinexprheumatol/aovika

Reach and Impact of In-Person and Remote Delivery Formats of Walk with Ease
Inquiry. 2023 Jan-Dec;60:469580231152314. doi: 10.1177/00469580231152314.ABSTRACTThis descriptive study retrospectively evaluates the reach and impact of cohorts enrolled in Group (in-person, 2017-2020) and Self-Directed (remote, 2019-2020) delivery formats of the evidenced-based health promotion program, Walk with Ease, implemented statewide in North Carolina. An existing dataset consisting of pre- and post-surveys were analyzed for 1,890 participants; 454 (24%) from the Group format and 1,436 (76%) from Self-Directed. Self-Directed participants were younger, had more years of education, represented more Black/African Ame...

Biden ’ s Physical Says He ’ s ‘ Healthy ’ and ‘ Vigorous, ’ But ‘ Gait Remains Stiff ’
President Biden, who turned 80 in November, was examined by doctors at Walter Reed National Medical Center in Maryland on Thursday. It was his first check up in over a year. Biden, the oldest President in US history, is widely expected to announce in the coming months that he is running for re-election. What were the results? His physician gave him a clean bill of health, but noted Biden continues to have stiffness in his walk from a combination of arthritis in his back, neuropathy in his feet and the long-term effects of breaking his foot in November 2020 while playing with his former dog Major. Doctors conducted a routin...

Association between baseline cardiovascular risk and incidence rates of major adverse cardiovascular events and malignancies in patients with psoriatic arthritis and psoriasis receiving tofacitinib
CONCLUSION: In tofacitinib-treated patients with PsA/PsO, increased ASCVD risk and baseline MetS were associated with higher IRs for MACE and malignancies. Our results support assessing CV risk in patients with PsA/PsO and suggest enhanced cancer monitoring in those with increased ASCVD risk.REGISTRATION CLINICALTRIALSGOV: NCT01877668/NCT01882439/NCT01976364/NCT00678210/NCT01710046/NCT01241591/NCT01186744/NCT01276639/NCT01309737/NCT01163253.PLAIN LANGUAGE SUMMARY: People who have psoriatic arthritis or psoriasis may have more heart-related problems and cancer if they have a higher risk of cardiovascular disease: A study in...

Impact of targeted therapies on the risk of cardiovascular events in patients with psoriasis and psoriatic arthritis: A  systematic review and aggregate data meta‐analysis of randomized controlled trials
ConclusionCurrent targeted therapies are not associated with the risk of CVEs. Based on the existing evidence, we reported here that a dosage reduction of targeted therapies was not recommended.

A comprehensive meta-analysis comprising 149 case-control studies to investigate the association between IL-6 gene rs1800795 polymorphism and multiple disease risk
CONCLUSION: This meta-analysis provided strong evidence for the association between IL-6 gene rs1800795 polymorphism and multiple disease risks. The IL-6 gene could be a useful prognostic biomarker for CAD, inflammatory disease, ischemic stroke, and rheumatoid arthritis.PMID:36736866 | DOI:10.1016/j.gene.2023.147234

Epidemiology and survival of systemic sclerosis-sarcoidosis overlap syndrome
CONCLUSION: Sarcoidosis in SSc is rare but appears to occur more frequently than the general population. It is associated with pulmonary, lymph node, cutaneous, joint and hepatic involvement. Stroke occurs more frequently in SSc-sarcoidosis patients but with no differences in survival.PMID:36725057 | DOI:10.3899/jrheum.220877
