Association between household air pollution from solid fuel use and risk of chronic diseases and their multimorbidity among Chinese adults
CONCLUSIONS: HAP from solid fuel use is associated with a high risk of chronic multimorbidity in Chinese adults. Our findings provide important implications for reducing chronic disease burden by restricting solid fuel use.PMID:36413929 | DOI:10.1016/j.envint.2022.107635

Dualistic roles and mechanistic insights of macrophage migration inhibitory factor in brain injury and neurodegenerative diseases
J Cereb Blood Flow Metab. 2022 Nov 11:271678X221138412. doi: 10.1177/0271678X221138412. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTMacrophage migration inhibitory factor (MIF) is involved in various immune-mediated pathologies and regulates both innate and adaptive immune reactions, thus being related to several acute and chronic inflammatory diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis, septic shock, and atherosclerosis. Its role in acute and chronic brain pathologies, such as stroke and neurodegenerative diseases, has attracted increasing attention in recent years. In response to stimuli like hypoxia, inflammation or infection, different ce...

Modulators of ASIC1a and its potential as a therapeutic target for age-related diseases
Ageing Res Rev. 2022 Nov 9:101785. doi: 10.1016/j.arr.2022.101785. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTAge-related diseases have become more common with the advancing age of the worldwide population. Such diseases involve multiple organs, with tissue degeneration and cellular apoptosis. To date, there is a general lack of effective drugs for treatment of most age-related diseases and there is therefore an urgent need to identify novel drug targets for improved treatment. Acid-sensing ion channel 1a (ASIC1a) is a degenerin/epithelial sodium channel family member, which is activated in an acidic environment to regulate pathophysio...

Anticancer, Cardio-Protective and Anti-Inflammatory Potential of Natural-Sources-Derived Phenolic Acids
Molecules. 2022 Oct 26;27(21):7286. doi: 10.3390/molecules27217286.ABSTRACTPhenolic acids (PAs) are one of the utmost prevalent classes of plant-derived bioactive chemicals. They have a specific taste and odor, and are found in numerous medicinal and food plants, such as Cynomorium coccineum L., Prunus domestica (L.), and Vitis vinifera L. Their biosynthesis, physical and chemical characteristics and structure-activity relationship are well understood. These phytochemicals and their derivatives exert several bioactivities including but not limited to anticancer, cardioprotective, anti-inflammatory, immune-regulatory and an...
