SNHG11 :A New Budding Star in Tumors and Inflammatory Diseases
CONCLUSION: LncRNA SNHG11 can serve as an early diagnostic biomarker, therapeutic target, and prognostic indicator in various diseases, particularly tumors. SNHG11 plays a crucial role in the occurrence and development of tumors and inflammatory diseases through various mechanisms, which has significant implications for clinical diagnosis and treatment.PMID:37165588 | DOI:10.2174/1389557523666230509122402

Patient suitability for free water protocols in acute stroke and general medicine: a qualitative study of clinician perceptions
CONCLUSIONS & IMPLICATIONS: Despite the benefits of FWPs in other settings, in acute stroke and general medicine, clinicians erred on the side of safety and, in most cases, would not implement an FWP. Future clinical research is needed to systematically design high-quality and feasible clinical trials to determine the benefits and safety of FWPs for patients with dysphagia in these settings. This would lay the foundations for guidelines to support the complex clinical decision-making regarding patient suitability for FWPs.WHAT THIS PAPER ADDS: What is already known on the subject FWPs are an alternate management strategy f...

A novel nomogram to predict overall survival in head and neck cancer survivors with radiation-induced brain necrosis
CONCLUSION: In this LASSO-Cox model-based nomogram study, we developed and validated an easily applied model to predict overall survival in head and neck cancer survivors following an RN diagnosis.PMID:35121029 | DOI:10.1016/j.radonc.2022.01.033

Tube feeding in patients with dementia is associated with a longer palliative care unit stay
CONCLUSION: The present study showed that, in patients with an established diagnosis of dementia, TF is common and independently associated with a longer length of PCU stay. Nevertheless, the study was underpowered and the results deserve confirmation in larger studies.PMID:34971282 | DOI:10.1002/alz.052919

1.I. Workshop: Capturing access challenges in health care: can the vignette methodology help?
Abstract Access to health care is a key performance dimension for health systems. Around 3% of the EU27 population experienced unmet need for health services in 2019 (Eurostat 2021). However, this average hides significant differences across and within countries, between income groups, levels of education and socio-economic categories. While some of the reasons for unmet need are more personal (no time, fear of doctor, etc.), the most common factors are health system-related. Although self-reported unmet need and other existing indicators, including catastrophic spending and impoverishing out-of-pocket spending, provide ...

Cancer-Associated Atherothrombosis: The Challenge
Int J Angiol DOI: 10.1055/s-0041-1729920The association between venous thrombosis and malignancy, having typical features of a paraneoplastic syndrome, has been established for a century. Currently, it is recognized that arterial thromboembolism (ATE) may also behave as a paraneoplastic syndrome. Recent matched cohort studies, systematic reviews, and observational studies concur in showing an increased incidence of acute coronary events, ischemic stroke, accelerated peripheral arterial disease, and in-stent thrombosis during the 6-month period before cancer diagnosis, peaking for 30 days immediately before cancer diagnosis...

Patterns of thromboembolism in patients with advanced pancreatic cancer undergoing 1st-line chemotherapy with FOLFIRINOX or Gemcitabine/nab-paclitaxel
CONCLUSION: Patients with aPC undergoing palliative 1st-line chemotherapy with FOLFIRINOX or GN face a high risk for VTE/ATE and its diagnosis is linked to worse clinical outcomes. VTE-risk prediction models have limited ability to sub-stratify thrombotic events in this high-risk scenario.PMID:34255340 | DOI:10.1055/a-1548-4847
