McConnell ’ s Bid to Downplay Freezes Undermined by History of Politicians Lying About Their Health
After Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell froze during a press conference this month, the Kentucky Republican’s second such episode this summer, his office released a note from the Capitol physician intended to calm those worried about his ability to continue at his job. Dr. Brian Monahan told McConnell in the letter that there was “no evidence that you have a seizure disorder or that you experienced a stroke, TIA or movement disorder such as Parkinson’s disease.” Monahan suggested the episodes may be related to the Leader’s concussion in March or to dehydration.  [time-brightcove n...

Association of urinary nitrate with diabetes complication and disease-specific mortality among adults with hyperglycemia
CONCLUSIONS: Higher urinary nitrate is associated with lower risk of congestive heart failure and diabetic nephropathy, and lower risk of all-cause, CVD, and diabetes mortalities. These findings indicated that inorganic nitrate supplementation can be considered as a supplementary treatment for people with hyperglycemia.PMID:36576885 | DOI:10.1210/clinem/dgac741

Admission Rates, Time Trends, Risk Factors, and Outcomes of Ischemic and Hemorrhagic Stroke From German Nationwide Data
DISCUSSION: Despite recent advances in acute stroke care over the last decade, the percentage of stroke hospitalizations resulting in death remained unchanged. Further research is needed to determine how best to optimize stroke care pathways for multimorbid patients.PMID:36332988 | DOI:10.1212/WNL.0000000000201259

Chronopharmacology of immune-related diseases
Allergol Int. 2022 Jul 15:S1323-8930(22)00075-2. doi: 10.1016/j.alit.2022.06.006. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTClock genes, circadian pacemaker resides in the paired suprachiasmatic nuclei (SCN), control various circadian rhythms in many biological processes such as physiology and behavior. Clock gene regulates many diseases such as cancer, immunological dysfunction, metabolic syndrome and sleep disorders etc. Chronotherapy is especially relevant, when the risk and/or intensity of the symptoms of disease vary predicably over time as exemplified by allergic rhinitis, arthritis, asthma, myocardial infarction, congestive hea...

New ERLEADA ® (apalutamide) Analysis Demonstrates Rapid, Deep Prostate-Specific Antigen (PSA) Response in Patients with Metastatic Castration-Sensitive Prostate Cancer (mCSPC)
SAN FRANCISCO, Feb. 14, 2022 – The Janssen Pharmaceutical Companies of Johnson & Johnson today announced new real-world evidence data showing the initiation of ERLEADA® (apalutamide) results in high rates of rapid and deep prostate-specific antigen (PSA) response among patients with metastatic castration-sensitive prostate cancer (mCSPC). In a separate post-hoc analysis of the registrational Phase 3 SPARTAN and TITAN studies, rapid and deep PSA responses with ERLEADA® were associated with improvement in patient-reported outcomes (PROs) related to quality of life, physical wellbeing, pain, and fatigue intensity. The...

Basis for diurnal exacerbation of neuropathic pain hypersensitivity and its application for drug development
J Biochem. 2021 Dec 30:mvab143. doi: 10.1093/jb/mvab143. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTIn addition to diurnal rhythms in physiology and behavior, a variety of pathological conditions also exhibit marked day-night changes in symptom intensity, exemplified by allergic rhinitis, arthritis, asthma, myocardial infarction, congestive heart failure, stroke, and chronic pain disorders. Currently, novel therapeutic approaches are facilitated by the development of chemical compounds targeted to key proteins that cause diurnal exacerbation of pathological events. Neuropathic pain is a chronic condition that occurs by tumor-induced ne...

ERLEADA ® (apalutamide) Oral Presentations Demonstrate Importance of Prostate Specific Antigen (PSA) as Key Efficacy Indicator and Show Strong Patient Adherence Rates
September 11, 2021 (RARITAN, N.J.) – The Janssen Pharmaceutical Companies of Johnson & Johnson today announced new data demonstrating robust prostate-specific antigen (PSA) response and strong adherence rates in patients with non-metastatic castration-resistant prostate cancer (nmCRPC) treated with ERLEADA® (apalutamide) in the real-world clinical setting. The strong PSA response was also seen in a separate post-hoc analysis that showed a correlation between rapid and deep PSA response and prolonged survival in both metastatic castration-sensitive prostate cancer (mCSPC) and nmCRPC. The post-hoc analysis also suppor...
