The Importance of CXCL1 in Physiology and Noncancerous Diseases of Bone, Bone Marrow, Muscle and the Nervous System
Int J Mol Sci. 2022 Apr 11;23(8):4205. doi: 10.3390/ijms23084205.ABSTRACTThis review describes the role of CXCL1, a chemokine crucial in inflammation as a chemoattractant for neutrophils, in physiology and in selected major non-cancer diseases. Due to the vast amount of available information, we focus on the role CXCL1 plays in the physiology of bones, bone marrow, muscle and the nervous system. For this reason, we describe its effects on hematopoietic stem cells, myoblasts, oligodendrocyte progenitors and osteoclast precursors. We also present the involvement of CXCL1 in diseases of selected tissues and organs including A...

Public perceptions of brain health: an international, online cross-sectional survey
Conclusions Differences in perceptions of brain health were noted among specific segments of the population. Policies providing information about brain-friendly health behaviours and targeting people less likely to have relevant experience may be needed.

Prevalence and associated relating factors in patients with hereditary retinal dystrophy: a nationwide population-based study in Taiwan
CONCLUSIONS: 74% of the diagnosed HRD are retinitis pigmentosa. Population-based data suggested an increased incidence of cataract in younger patients, whereas older HRD patients are more susceptible to develop CME. Further work is needed to elucidate the mechanism between these ophthalmological disorders and HRD.PMID:35396285 | DOI:10.1136/bmjopen-2021-054111

Understanding health problems in people with extremely low health-related quality of life in Korea
This study targeted population with inferior HRQoL and examined their problems experienced with HRQoL dimensions, and impacts of different morbidities on these problems. Data were obtained from a population-based survey in Korea. HRQoL was measured by EQ-5D questionnaire and low-HRQoL population was defined as individuals whose EQ-5D utility score was among the lowest 5% of total survey population. Logistic regression models were used to evaluate the impact of fifteen morbidities on HRQoL dimensions. Of 2976 low-HRQoL participants, females and low socioeconomic individuals were predominant. They experienced significantly m...

Functional aging trajectories of older cancer survivors: a latent growth analysis of the US Health and Retirement Study
CONCLUSION: Older cancer survivors experience heterogeneous trajectories of functional aging that are largely characterized by comorbidities prior to diagnosis.IMPLICATION FOR CANCER SURVIVORS: Results can help identify older cancer survivors at increased risk for accelerated functional decline.PMID:35218520 | DOI:10.1007/s11764-022-01185-0

IJERPH, Vol. 19, Pages 2666: Negative Self-Assessment of Health in Women: Association with Sociodemographic Characteristics, Physical Inactivity and Multimorbidity
Conclusion: The prevalence of NSAH was low. A strong association was found between this variable and multimorbidity. In addition, increased age, low schooling and physical inactivity were predictors of NSAH in women.

Characteristics of family nurse practitioners and their preparation for practice in rural vs urban employment settings
Approximately 50 million people, 20% of the population of the United States, live in areas designated as rural (U.S.  Census Bureau, 2018). Rural Americans are more likely to die from heart disease, cancer, chronic lower respiratory disease, and stroke compared to their urban counterparts (Rural Health Information (RHI), 2019b). Deaths from unintentional injury are approximately 50% higher in rural areas (Cente rs for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), 2017). Increasing rates of substance abuse disorders, depression, and suicidality in rural settings continue to outpace rates in urban settings (Gale, Janis, Coburn,& Rochford, 2019).

Mendelian randomization analyses for PCOS: evidence, opportunities, and challenges
Trends Genet. 2022 Jan 27:S0168-9525(22)00005-1. doi: 10.1016/j.tig.2022.01.005. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTIdentifying etiological risk factors is significant for preventing and treating patients with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS). Through genetic variation, Mendelian randomization (MR) assesses causal associations between PCOS risk and related exposure factors. This emerging technology has provided evidence of causal associations of anti-Müllerian hormone (AMH) levels, sex hormone-binding globulin (SHBG) levels, menopause age, adiposity, insulin resistance (IR), depression, breast cancer, ovarian cancer, obsessive...

Prediabetes and risk of mortality, diabetes-related complications and comorbidities: umbrella review of meta-analyses of prospective studies
Conclusions/interpretationPrediabetes was positively associated with risk of all-cause mortality and the incidence of cardiovascular outcomes, CHD, stroke, chronic kidney disease, cancer and dementia. Further high-quality studies, particularly on HbA1c-defined prediabetes and other relevant health outcomes (e. g. neuropathy) are required to support the evidence.Graphical abstract
