Timing of Colposcopy and Risk of Cervical Cancer
CONCLUSION: There was no difference in cervical cancer risk at more than 1 year between patients who received colposcopy within 3 months compared with those who received colposcopy within 3-12 months of an abnormal result. Patients who did not receive colposcopy within 12 months of an abnormal result had a higher risk of subsequent cervical cancer compared with those who received a colposcopy within 12 months.PMID:37607530 | DOI:10.1097/AOG.0000000000005313

Burden and geographic distribution of oral cavity and oropharyngeal cancers in the Russian Federation
CONCLUSION: We detail the burden of OCCs and OPCs across Russia, with the aim of elucidating modifiable risk factors and proposing evidence-based prevention strategies. Tobacco/alcohol sales control measures and smoking/drinking cessation programs should continue to be prioritized as public health measures, especially for females.PMID:37601694 | PMC:PMC10435750 | DOI:10.3389/fonc.2023.1197287

Cervical HPV infection in Yueyang, China: a cross-sectional study of 125,604 women from 2019 to 2022
CONCLUSION: The prevalence of HPV in women in Yueyang city was 20.5%, with HR-HPV being dominant. As women aged <25 years, 55-64 years, and ≥ 65 years are at a relatively higher risk, more attention should be paid to them for prevention and control of HPV infections.PMID:37601194 | PMC:PMC10435747 | DOI:10.3389/fpubh.2023.1210253

Immune microenvironment of cervical cancer and the role of IL-2 in tumor promotion
Cytokine. 2023 Aug 18;170:156334. doi: 10.1016/j.cyto.2023.156334. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe tumor microenvironment (TME) is a heterogeneous mixture of resident and tumor cells that maintain close communication through their secretion products. The composition of the TME is dynamic and complex among the different types of cancer, where the immune cells play a relevant role in the elimination of tumor cells, however, under certain circumstances they contribute to tumor development. In cervical cancer (CC) the human papilloma virus (HPV) shapes the microenvironment in order to mediate persistent infections that favor...

Predicting HPV association using deep learning and regular H & amp;E stains allows granular stratification of oropharyngeal cancer patients
NPJ Digit Med. 2023 Aug 19;6(1):152. doi: 10.1038/s41746-023-00901-z.ABSTRACTHuman Papilloma Virus (HPV)-associated oropharyngeal squamous cell cancer (OPSCC) represents an OPSCC subgroup with an overall good prognosis with a rising incidence in Western countries. Multiple lines of evidence suggest that HPV-associated tumors are not a homogeneous tumor entity, underlining the need for accurate prognostic biomarkers. In this retrospective, multi-institutional study involving 906 patients from four centers and one database, we developed a deep learning algorithm (OPSCCnet), to analyze standard H&E stains for the calculat...

Disparities in cervical cancer screening programs in Cameroon: a scoping review of facilitators and barriers to implementation and uptake of screening
CONCLUSION: This scoping review indicates that there are knowledge and research gaps concerning the state of cervical cancer screening services in some regions of Cameroon. Moreover, it underlines the need for comprehensive cancer control policies and practices integrating all six-health system building blocks to reduce disparities between regions, and rural versus urban areas in Cameroon.PMID:37592286 | DOI:10.1186/s12939-023-01942-2

Parental intention to vaccinate daughters with the human papillomavirus vaccine in Korea: a nationwide cross-sectional survey
CONCLUSION: The intention among parents to vaccinate daughters remains relatively low, although it is rising. To increase the HPV vaccination rate, strong recommendations and education should be provided to parents and the younger generation.PMID:37591785 | DOI:10.4178/epih.e2023076

Global and regional estimates of genital human papillomavirus prevalence among men: a systematic review and meta-analysis
Lancet Glob Health. 2023 Sep;11(9):e1345-e1362. doi: 10.1016/S2214-109X(23)00305-4.ABSTRACTBACKGROUND: The epidemiology of human papillomavirus (HPV) in women has been well documented. Less is known about the epidemiology of HPV in men. We aim to provide updated global and regional pooled overall, type-specific, and age-specific prevalence estimates of genital HPV infection in men.METHODS: We conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis to assess the prevalence of genital HPV infection in the general male population. We searched Embase, Ovid MEDLINE, and the Global Index Medicus for studies published between Jan 1, 1995...
