Apigenin Alleviates Oxidative Stress-Induced Cellular Senescence via Modulation of the SIRT1-NADFormula: see text-CD38 Axis
In this study, we selected the hydrogen peroxide (H2O[Formula: see text]- or doxorubicin (DOXO)-induced senescence model in WI-38 human embryonic lung fibroblast cells to determine the potential anti-aging effects of apigenin in vitro and associated molecular mechanisms. We found that apigenin reduced senescence-associated [Formula: see text]-galactosidase (SA-[Formula: see text]-gal) activity and promoted cell growth, concomitant with a decrease in levels of Acetyl (ac)-p53, p21[Formula: see text], and p16[Formula: see text] and an increase in phospho (p)-Rb. Apigenin also increased the activation ratio of silent informat...

Epithelium-derived IL17A Promotes Cigarette Smoke-induced Inflammation and Mucus Hyperproduction
In this study, we aim to determine whether epithelial-derived IL17A regulates inflammation and mucus hyperproduction in COPD using a cultured human bronchial epithelial (HBE) cell line in vitro and airway epithelium IL17A-specific knockout mouse in vivo. Increased IL17A expression was observed in mouse airway epithelium upon cigarette smoke (CS) exposure or in a COPD mouse model that was induced by CS and elastin. CS extract (CSE) also triggered IL17A expression in HBE cells. Blocking IL17A or IL17RA effectively attenuated CSE-induced MUC5AC and the inflammatory cytokines IL6, tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-α, and IL1β in H...

Effects of allyl isothiocyanate on the expression, function, and its mechanism of ABCA1 and ABCG1 in pulmonary of COPD rats
CONCLUSION: These results suggest that AITC improves COPD by promoting RCT process and reducing inflammatory response via activating LXR pathways.PMID:34802946 | DOI:10.1016/j.intimp.2021.108373

Involvement of < em > NEAT1 < /em > /PINK1-mediated mitophagy in chronic obstructive pulmonary disease induced by cigarette smoke or PM < sub > 2.5 < /sub >
CONCLUSIONS: Our results suggest that CS and PM2.5 exposure induce mitochondrial dysfunction, and the NEAT1/PINK1 pathway plays a critical role in the occurrence and development of COPD by regulating mitophagy.PMID:35433942 | PMC:PMC9011272 | DOI:10.21037/atm-22-542

Hydrogen sulfide alleviates particulate matter-induced emphysema and airway inflammation by suppressing ferroptosis
CONCLUSION: This research suggested that H2S alleviated PM-induced emphysema and airway inflammation via restoring redox balance and inhibiting ferroptosis through regulating Nrf2-PPAR-ferritinophagy signaling pathway.PMID:35490984 | DOI:10.1016/j.freeradbiomed.2022.04.014
