Ciltacabtagene Autoleucel in Patients With Prior Allogeneic Stem Cell Transplant in the CARTITUDE-1 Study
CONCLUSION: Cilta-cel efficacy and safety were comparable between CARTITUDE-1 patients with and without prior alloSCT. Additional studies are needed to fully elucidate the suitability of CAR-T cell therapy in the post-alloSCT setting.PMID:37716872 | DOI:10.1016/j.clml.2023.08.012

Enhancing differentiation of menstrual blood-derived stem cells into female germ cells using a bilayer amniotic membrane and nano-fibrous fibroin scaffold
This study aims to investigate the influence of a bilayer amniochorionic membrane/nanofibrous fibroin scaffold on the differentiation of human menstrual blood mesenchymal stromal/stem cells (MenSCs) into female germ cells. MenSCs were isolated and assigned to four culture groups: (i) MenSCs co-cultured with granulosa cells (GCs) using the scaffold (3D-T group), (ii) MenSCs using the scaffold alone (3D-C group), (iii) MenSCs co-cultured only with GCs (2D-T group), and (iv) MenSCs without co-culture or scaffold (2D-C group). Both MenSCs and GCs were independently cultured for two weeks before co-culturing was initiated. Flow...

Secretome Derived from Mesenchymal Stem/Stromal Cells: A Promising Strategy for Diabetes and its Complications
Curr Stem Cell Res Ther. 2023 Sep 13. doi: 10.2174/1574888X19666230913154544. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTDiabetes is a complex metabolic disease with a high global prevalence. The health and quality of life of patients with diabetes are threatened by many complications, including diabetic foot ulcers, diabetic kidney diseases, diabetic retinopathy, and diabetic peripheral neuropathy. The application of mesenchymal stem/stromal cells (MSCs) in cell therapies has been recognized as a potential treatment for diabetes and its complications. MSCs were originally thought to exert biological effects exclusively by differentiat...

Cancer Stem Cells in Carcinogenesis and Potential Role in Pancreatic Cancer
Curr Stem Cell Res Ther. 2023 Sep 14. doi: 10.2174/1574888X19666230914103420. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTA poor prognosis is associated with pancreatic cancer because of resistance during treatment and early distant metastases. The discovery of cancer stem cells has opened up novel avenues for research into the biology and treatment of cancer. Many investigations have pointed out the role of these types of stem cells in the oncogenesis and progression of hematologic and solid malignancies, specifically. Due to the existence of cancer stem cells in the proliferation and preservation of pancreatic tumors, such malignancie...

Key role of exosomes derived from M2 macrophages in maintaining cancer cell stemness (Review)
Int J Oncol. 2023 Nov;63(5):126. doi: 10.3892/ijo.2023.5574. Epub 2023 Sep 15.ABSTRACTCancer stem cells (CSCs) constitute a specific subset of cells found within tumors that are responsible for initiating, advancing and resisting traditional cancer treatments. M2 macrophages, also known as alternatively activated macrophages, contribute to the development and progression of cancer through their involvement in promoting angiogenesis, suppressing the immune system, supporting tumor growth and facilitating metastasis. Exosomes, tiny vesicles released by cells, play a crucial role in intercellular communications and have been ...

Acute Myeloid Leukemia Causes T Cell Exhaustion and Depletion in a Humanized Graft-versus-Leukemia Model
J Immunol. 2023 Sep 15:ji2300111. doi: 10.4049/jimmunol.2300111. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTAllogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (alloSCT) is, in many clinical settings, the only curative treatment for acute myeloid leukemia (AML). The clinical benefit of alloSCT greatly relies on the graft-versus-leukemia (GVL) effect. However, AML relapse remains the top cause of posttransplant death; this highlights the urgent need to enhance GVL. Studies of human GVL have been hindered by the lack of optimal clinically relevant models. In this article, we report, the successful establishment of a novel (to our knowledg...
