CHCHD2 mediates glioblastoma cell proliferation, mitochondrial metabolism, hypoxia ‑induced invasion and therapeutic resistance
Int J Oncol. 2023 Nov;63(5):117. doi: 10.3892/ijo.2023.5565. Epub 2023 Sep 1.ABSTRACTGlioblastoma (GBM) is the most common and malignant primary brain tumor affecting adults and remains incurable. The mitochondrial coiled‑coil‑helix‑coiled‑coil‑helix domain‑containing protein 2 (CHCHD2) has been demonstrated to mediate mitochondrial respiration, nuclear gene expression and cell migration; however, evidence of this in GBM is lacking. In the present study, it was hypothesized that CHCHD2 may play a functional role in U87 GBM cells expressing the constitutively active epidermal growth factor receptor variant III (...

Network topology in brain tumor patients with and without structural epilepsy: a prospective MEG study
CONCLUSION: Our data suggest that network topology is altered in brain tumor patients. Histology per se might not, however, tumor-related epilepsy seems to influence the brain's functional network. Longitudinal studies and analysis of possible confounders are required to substantiate these findings.PMID:37655227 | PMC:PMC10467269 | DOI:10.1177/17562864231190298

Sodium fluorescein uptake by the tumor microenvironment in human gliomas and brain metastases
CONCLUSIONS: SF is not just a marker of BBB damage, but its intracellular detection suggests that it selectively accumulates intracellularly. Future efforts should target the mechanisms of its differential uptake by the different TME cell types in depth.PMID:37657099 | DOI:10.3171/2023.7.JNS23873

Risk of second primary cancer from proton arc therapy of pediatric brain tumors
This study therefore aimed at evaluating the risk of radiation-induced second primary cancer (SPC) for PAT in pediatric brain tumor patients. Two brain-specific models for SPC induction were applied in five cases to compare volumetric modulated arc therapy (VMAT), intensity modulated proton therapy (IMPT) and PAT surrogate plans. The PAT integral dose was reduced by a median of 29% compared to VMAT, and 17% compared to IMPT. For both models, the estimated SPC risks were consistently the lowest for PAT.PMID:37655121 | PMC:PMC10465935 | DOI:10.1016/j.phro.2023.100480

Multiple functions and dual characteristics of RAB11A in cancers
Biochim Biophys Acta Rev Cancer. 2023 Aug 30:188966. doi: 10.1016/j.bbcan.2023.188966. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTVesicle trafficking is an unceasing and elaborate cellular process that functions in material transport and information delivery. Recent studies have identified the small GTPase, Ras-related protein in brain 11A (RAB11A), as a key regulator in this process. Aberrant RAB11A expression has been reported in several types of cancers, suggesting the important functions and characteristics of RAB11A in cancer. These discoveries are of great significance because therapeutic strategies based on the physiological and...
