Multiple Myeloma in Young Patients: A Scoping Review
Clin Lymphoma Myeloma Leuk. 2023 Aug 28:S2152-2650(23)00277-X. doi: 10.1016/j.clml.2023.08.019. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTData on the disease course, presenting features, outcomes, and prognosis of younger patients with multiple myeloma (MM) are lacking. Younger patients with MM have historically been considered to have better outcomes primarily based on better tolerance of treatment and lack of medical comorbidities, but the specific age range of this population has not been uniformly defined. Given the lack of consistent data reporting in patients considered to be young MM patients, we performed a scoping review to h...

Updates in the Management of Primary Mediastinal B Cell Lymphoma
Clin Lymphoma Myeloma Leuk. 2023 Aug 21:S2152-2650(23)00274-4. doi: 10.1016/j.clml.2023.08.014. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTPrimary mediastinal B cell lymphoma (PMBCL) is considered a distinct pathology according to the WHO classification of lymphoid malignancies. Patients have a better prognosis after the addition of Rituximab to anthracycline-based chemotherapy. The role of consolidative radiotherapy is controversial after the approval of dose-adjusted R-EPOCH and the selection of patients to undergo radiotherapy is based on end-of-therapy PET CT. In the relapsed/refractory setting, new approved drugs and other under i...

Diosgenin prevents dexamethasone-induced myotube atrophy in C2C12  cells
Arch Biochem Biophys. 2023 Sep 16:109759. doi: 10.1016/j.abb.2023.109759. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTSeveral pathophysiological abnormalities, including a sedentary lifestyle, chronic diseases, and oxidative stress, can contribute to muscle atrophy triggered by an imbalance in muscle protein synthesis and degradation. Resolving muscle atrophy is a critical issue as it can reduce the quality of life. Here, one of the promising functional food factors, diosgenin (a steroidal sapogenin) showed strong preventive activities against dexamethasone (Dex)-induced muscle atrophy, as determined by the expression levels and morphol...

Clinical analysis of bacterial infection characteristics in lymphoma patients with high-dose chemotherapy combined with autologous hematopoietic stem cell transplantation-a single-centered retrospective study
CONCLUSION: High-dose chemotherapy combined with autologous hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HDT/AHSCT) is used to treat lymphoma. Although AHSCT has made considerable strides and become safer, HDT-AHSCT infection continues to be a leading cause of morbidity and mortality associated with transplantation.PMID:37718527 | DOI:10.2174/1386207326666230915115056

Role of human epidermal growth factor receptor 3 in treatment resistance of anaplastic lymphoma kinase translocated non-small cell lung cancer
CONCLUSIONS: This study provides evidence that HER3 may mediate TKI resistance in ALK+ NSCLC. Interestingly, we were able to show that both translocated ALK and HER3 could interact. Joint targeting of ALK and HER3 could be further investigate in ALK+ NSCLC.PMID:37722715 | PMC:PMC10512822 | DOI:10.1080/15384047.2023.2256906

Ciltacabtagene Autoleucel in Patients With Prior Allogeneic Stem Cell Transplant in the CARTITUDE-1 Study
CONCLUSION: Cilta-cel efficacy and safety were comparable between CARTITUDE-1 patients with and without prior alloSCT. Additional studies are needed to fully elucidate the suitability of CAR-T cell therapy in the post-alloSCT setting.PMID:37716872 | DOI:10.1016/j.clml.2023.08.012

Long-term incidence of haematological cancer after bariatric surgery or usual care in the Swedish Obese Subjects study: a prospective cohort study
This study is registered with ClinicalTrials.gov (NCT01479452) and is ongoing.FINDINGS: A total of 4047 individuals with obesity were enrolled between Sept 1, 1987, and Jan 31, 2001. Overall, 34 participants in the surgery group and 51 participants in the usual care control group were diagnosed with haematological cancer during follow-up (hazard ratio [HR] 0·60; 95% CI 0·39-0·92; p=0·020). Moreover, there were three deaths by haematological cancer in the surgery group and 13 deaths in the control group (0·22; 0·06-0·76; p=0·017). Surgery was also associated with a reduced incidence of lymphoma (0·45; 0·23-0·88; ...

Aflatoxin B1 triggers apoptosis in rabbit hepatocytes via mediating oxidative stress and switching on the mitochondrial apoptosis pathway
Ecotoxicol Environ Saf. 2023 Sep 14;264:115478. doi: 10.1016/j.ecoenv.2023.115478. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTAflatoxin B1 (AFB1) is considered the most toxic carcinogenic compound, and exposure to AFB1 is highly associated with hepatocellular carcinoma. The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of different doses of AFB1 on growth performance and the liver of rabbits, as well as explore its underlying mechanisms. A total of eighty 30-day-old meat rabbits were randomly divided into four treatments. The control group was fed a pollution-free diet, while the AFL, AFM, and AFH groups were fed contaminated diets ...
