Safety, efficacy, and immunogenicity of a replication-defective human cytomegalovirus vaccine, V160, in cytomegalovirus-seronegative women: a double-blind, randomised, placebo-controlled, phase 2b trial
This study provides insights into the design of future CMV vaccine efficacy trials, particularly for the identification of CMV infection using molecular assays.FUNDING: Merck Sharp & Dohme, a subsidiary of Merck & Co, Rahway, NJ, USA (MSD).PMID:37660711 | DOI:10.1016/S1473-3099(23)00343-2

Post-Marketing Safety Surveillance of Tofacitinib over 9 Years in Patients with Psoriatic Arthritis and Rheumatoid Arthritis
ConclusionsTofacitinib PMS safety data from submitted AE reports were consistent between PsA and RA, and aligned with its known safety profile. Exposure data (lower MR versus IR; estimation from commercial sales data), reporting bias, reporter identity, and regional differences in formulation use limit interpretation.

Peripheral Nerve Stimulation of the Lesser Occipital and Greater Auricular Nerve for Post Herpetic Neuralgia in a Case of Ramsay Hunt Syndrome: Case Report
CONCLUSIONS: PNS is an effective and safe option for the treatment of chronic pain, and we present a report of successful treatment of PHN in a particularly difficult anatomic distribution. PNS of the lesser occipital and greater auricular nerves is a novel treatment for PHN and shows promise as an effective, safe therapy when other treatment fails.PMID:37641792 | PMC:PMC10460630 | DOI:10.52965/001c.85149

Lives of Skin Lesions in Monkeypox: Histomorphological, Immunohistochemical, and Clinical Correlations in a Small Case Series
In this study, we evaluated skin biopsies of all stages. Therefore, five biopsies from four patients were analyzed histologically, immunohistochemically with anti-Vaccinia virus antibodies, and electron-microscopically. Notably, the early macular stage only showed subtle viropathic changes; it did not express of Orthopoxvirus proteins in immunohistochemistry and therefore can easily be missed histologically. In later stages, immunohistochemistry with anti-Vaccinia virus antibodies might be useful to distinguish mpox from differential diagnoses such as herpes virus infections. In the ulcerative stages, the identified occlus...

Dermatological Issues Among Individuals Receiving Palliative Care - A Review
Am J Hosp Palliat Care. 2023 Aug 25:10499091231198752. doi: 10.1177/10499091231198752. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTSkin disorders among individuals receiving palliative care may be associated with the primary condition or underlying comorbidities and patients may experience pruritus, discomfort or pain. Common conditions include xerosis, pressure ulcers, intertrigo, superficial fungal infections, telogen effluvium, pruritus, herpes zoster, eczematous disorders and edema. During end-of-life care, there is reduced skin perfusion and metabolism hence leading to susceptibility to infection, pressure and injury. Other factors...

Herpes Zoster Ophthalmicus Discovered During Pain Consult Possibly Complicated With Dural Sinus Thrombosis and Refractory Headache Managed With Ketamine: A Case Report
In this report, we present the case of a 51-year-old male with severe headache and imaging findings of dural sinus thrombosis. He was later diagnosed with herpes zoster ophthalmicus and required aggressive inpatient management of neuropathic pain. Despite appropriate treatment, acute herpes zoster can progress to post-herpetic neuralgia, requiring long-term pain management.PMID:37593290 | PMC:PMC10430885 | DOI:10.7759/cureus.42018

Portal Vein Aneurysm: Case Report
A 43-year-old woman with a history of hypertension, herpes simplex, and tobacco use presented with a 6- to 8-month history of abdominal pain. Other symptoms included back pain, bloating, and occasional postprandial abdominal pain. She underwent a computed tomography (CT) scan of the abdomen/pelvis, which revealed a portal vein aneurysm located at the portomesenteric junction and measured 38  mm. On physical examination, she had generalized tenderness that was worse over the right upper quadrant. Since it was uncertain that her symptoms were due to the portal vein aneurysm, she was referred to gastroenterology and an upper...
