The role of multiple sclerosis therapies on the dynamic of human gut microbiota
Gut microbiota, the total microorganisms in our gastrointestinal tract, might have an implication in multiple sclerosis (MS), a demyelinating neurological disease. Our study included 50 MS patients and 21 healthy controls (HC). Twenty patients received a disease modifying therapy (DMT), interferon beta1a or teriflunomide, 19 DMT combined with homeopathy and 11 patients accepted only homeopathy. We collected in total 142 gut samples, two for each individual: at the study enrolment and eight weeks after treatment.

Use of Complementary and Alternative Medicine in Patients with Primary Immunodeficiency: a Multicentric Analysis of 101 Patients
AbstractThe term complementary and alternative medicine (CAM) describes a broad spectrum of health care practices that are not an integral part of the conventional health care system. Many patients worldwide use CAM on their own initiative, often in combination with their conventional medical therapy. CAM use is attractive especially to patients with primary immunodeficiency, since they suffer from frequent infections and autoimmunity. Those are frequently addressed by CAM providers. The aim of this multicentric study was to collect information on the use of CAM by these patients and to define characteristics that are asso...

Treatment with Lycopodium clavatum 200dH Intensifies Kidney and Liver Injury in Mice Infected with Toxoplasma gondii
In this study, physiological, histopathological, and immunological parameters were evaluated. TheL. clavatum 200dH intensified renal damage in mice infected withT. gondii from 7 dpi, causing severe and progressive alterations during this period, such as various degrees of inflammation, edema, atrophy, and tubular cystic dilation, degenerated tubules with intra-cytoplasmic vacuoles and coalescing spots, severe vascular lesions, glomerulonephritis, and peri-glomerular congestion. In the G72 animals, which receivedL. clavatum 200dH, more severe cortex damage was observed (91.66 –96.66%) as compared to the IC group (55–80%...

Nettle Allergy: a Review and Clinical Perspective
The objectives of this article are to review the available literature regarding the geographic distribution of nettle, allergen(s) involved, cross-reactivity, role in allergic rhinitis, immunotherapy efficacy, and provide a clinical perspective on the evaluation and treatment of nettle sensitized patients.Recent findingsStinging nettle (Urtica dioica) is a bi-annual pollinator with worldwide distribution and wide use in homeopathy. Limited data suggest that nettle pollen allergens may be considered clinically relevant and that nettle pollen allergy may be underestimated. More recent allergomic analysis of nettle pollen has...

The immunomodulatory effects of a commercial antiviral homeopathic compound in C57BL/6 mice, pre and post vaccine challenge.
Abstract Homeopathic remedies have been selectively employed in human medicine since Hahneman introduced the concept in 1828. While the use of homeopathy is regionally popular in both human and veterinary medicine, there is still a significant lack of scientific evidence supporting its efficacy. This is likely due to an absence of studies evaluating the mechanism of action of these compounds. Engystol® an FDA-approved antiviral agent, is a popular homeopathic commercial product. In select in vivo and in vitro observational studies, the drug showed a measureable innate immune therapeutic efficacy. The focus of the...

Cross-sectional survey: Risk-averse French general practitioners are more favorable toward influenza vaccination.
CONCLUSION: Individual risk attitudes may influence GPs' practices regarding influenza vaccination, both for themselves and their patients. Our results suggest that risk-averse GPs may perceive the risks of influenza to outweigh the potential risks related to the vaccine. PMID: 25545596 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Complementary and Alternative Therapy (CAM) in the Treatment of Allergic Rhinitis
Abstract CAM is any therapeutic intervention that exists outside traditional allopathic medicine. The utilization in the US population is increasing up to 4 out of 10 patients in some surveys [1]. Given this increasing prevalence, it is essential that clinicians have the resources to advise their patients in the utilizations, benefits, and potential harms of these alternative therapies. Recent literature was reviewed in regard to traditional Chinese medicine [TCM], acupuncture, homeopathy, and herbal therapy in the treatment of allergic rhinitis limited to randomized controlled trials. Several complementary treat...
