Management of intrapulmonary hemorrhage in patients undergoing pulmonary thrombo-endarterectomy
We present three challenging cases that developed intrapulmonary hemorrhage during/after PTE and managed successfully. The first patient had bleeding from the bronchial artery and right internal mammary collaterals, which was managed by coil-embolization. The second patient had a breach in the blood airway barrier in the right upper lobar segment of the lung, and the repair was done using a surgical absorbable hemostat. The third patient developed reperfusion injury, he was instituted on veno-venous extracorporeal membranous oxygenation, a week later, the patient recovered completely. An algorithm was adopted and modified ...

Posttraumatic bronchobiliary fistulae due to foreign body remnants after  a road traffic injury: a case report
ConclusionsHerein, we report an extremely rare case of a posttraumatic bronchobiliary fistula caused by remnants of Surgicel hemostatic agent. Bronchobiliary fistula is mainly caused by untreated hydatid cyst, liver abscess, iatrogenic stenosis, and, rarely, trauma. Migration and erosion of oxidized regenerated cellulose through the diaphragm seems to be the causative factor of bronchobiliary fistula in this patient.

Nasopharyngeal Airway Causing Partial Tracheal Obstruction During an Awake Nasotracheal Fiberoptic Intubation: A Case Report
We describe a case where this nasopharyngeal airway was inadvertently advanced with the bronchoscope and led to partial tracheal obstruction. To our knowledge, this represents the first reported case of this mishap. Aspiration of the nasopharyngeal airway can lead to complete airway obstruction and devastating consequences. Simple techniques such as attaching a hemostat or using an assistant to hold on to the nasopharyngeal airway may prevent this occurrence.

Biomimetic hydroxyapate/polydopamine composites with good biocompatibility and efficiency for uncontrolled bleeding
AbstractUncontrolled bleeding is thought to be the most deadly cause of pre ‐hospital, traffic, and military accidents death. However, the popular commercial hemostats can only realize the hemostasis of mild bleeding. Therefore, we developed polydopamine (PDA) composite materials (PMs), which applied hydroxyapatite as the parent body. The PMs were produced via lyophilizat ion and functionalized with amino, phenol hydroxyls groups, which endowed hydrophobicity to materials. This ensured a high aggregation ability of blood cells to the PMs and they were tested to be as high as 300% compared with the negative control group....

Physico-mechanical and biological evaluation of an injectable m-TG cross-linked thrombin loaded amended gelatin hemostat to heal liver trauma
The objective of this study was to evaluate the activation of a coagulation system both in vitro and in vivo. We assessed detailed physical characteristics of a microbial transglutaminase (m-TG) crosslinked thrombin (TB) laden Gelatin (Gel) hemostat sealant in vitro and its hemostatic efficacy for controlling bleeding caused by liver trauma in rats as well as its efficacy for organ regeneration after making a critical defect. The prepared hemostat gel showed almost seven times higher absorbance behavior than a negative control. Thrombogenicity of the prepared gel was determined based on platelet adhesion, whole blood clott...
