What makes Elon Musk tick? I spent months following the same people as him to find out who fuels his curious worldview
Tucker Carlson, Greta Thunberg, Covid sceptics, military historians, the royal family … What would my time immersed in the Twitter/X owner’s feed reveal about the richest man in the world? What ’s it like tobe Elon Musk? On almost every level it is impossible to imagine – he’s just too much. Musk is the hands-on head of three mega-companies, one (Tesla) wildly successful, one (SpaceX) madly aspirational, one (Twitter/X) a shambles. He has plenty of other businesses on the side, including The Boring Company (which makes hi-tech tunnels), Neuralink (which makes b rain-computer interfaces), and his current pet favour...

Increasing SARS-CoV-2 seroprevalence among UK pediatric patients on dialysis and kidney transplantation between January 2020 and August 2021
ConclusionsAnti-SARS-CoV-2 seroprevalence was low in 2020 and increased in early 2021. Serological surveillance complements nucleic acid detection and antigen testing to build a greater picture of the epidemiology of COVID-19 and is therefore important to guide public health responses.Graphical abstractA higher resolution version of the Graphical abstract is available asSupplementary information

Shape Anisotropy ‐Governed High‐Performance Nanomagnetosol for In Vivo Magnetic Particle Imaging of Lungs
Magnetic particle imaging (MPI) offers high contrast, sensitivity, and signal-to-noise ratios for lung imaging, enhancing theranostic strategies in respiratory disease. Innovations in MPI tracers promise further gains, bolstering clinical applicability. This work introduces a superior nanotracer, leveraging magnetic nanoparticle shape anisotropy, elevating sensitivity and resolution beyond conventional spherical counterparts for lung MPI. AbstractCaused by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2), coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) has shown extensive lung manifestations in vulnerable individuals, putt...

Viruses, Vol. 15, Pages 1976: Extracellular Vesicles as a Translational Approach for the Treatment of COVID-19 Disease: An Updated Overview
a Di Domenico Severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) caused a global pandemic in the years 2020–2022. With a high prevalence, an easy route of transmission, and a long incubation time, SARS-CoV-2 spread quickly and affected public health and socioeconomic conditions. Several points need to be elucidated about its mechanisms of infection, in particular, its capability to evade the immune system and escape from neutralizing antibodies. Extracellular vesicles (EVs) are phospholipid bilayer-delimited particles that are involved in cell-to-cell communication; they contain biological infor...

SARS-CoV-2 egress from Vero cells: a morphological approach
This study aimed to shed light on the morphological features of SARS-CoV-2 egress by utilizing transmission and high-resolution scanning electron microscopy, along with serial electron tomography, to describe the route of nascent virions towards the extracellular medium. Electron microscopy revealed that the clusters of viruses in the paracellular space did not seem to result from collective virus release. Instead, virus accumulation was observed on incurved areas of the cell surface, with egress primarily occurring through individual vesicles. Additionally, our findings showed that the emission of long membrane projection...
