Clinical Features and Risk Factors of Post-COVID-19 Condition in Korea
CONCLUSIONS: More than a quarter of COVID-19 patients, including those who had no initial symptoms, experienced PCC in Korea. People with the initial symptoms of fever, chills, and respiratory symptoms and those who had prolonged hospital stays had a high risk of PCC.PMID:37735829 | DOI:10.3961/jpmph.23.124

With the Decongestant SNAFU, the FDA Tries Something New
It’s easy to understand how a medicine like phenylephrine got onto pharmacy shelves in the first place. The common decongestant, used most often as an ingredient in multidrug cold medications like DayQuil and Sudafed PE, was initially designated as “safe and effective” by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in 1976, when the agency was newly—and less stringently than today—greenlighting drugs that had been on the market for years before the agency had established any efficacy standards. After a full review of 14 studies (12 unpublished and two published) from pharmaceutical companies—...

Acute motor-sensory axonal polyneuropathy variant of Guillain-Barr é syndrome with a thalamic lesion and COVID-19: a case report and discussion on mechanism
ConclusionThe AMSAN variant of GBS secondary to COVID-19 infection is severe and can cause extensive damage to the peripheral nerves system. The deterioration of symptoms in the patient after early immunotherapy may indicate treatment-related fluctuation (TRF) and could be attributed to immune rebound. Moreover, an excessive immune response post-COVID-19 infection may trigger concurrent damage to the central nervous system, indicating secondary harm to brain small blood vessels and nerve units. For suspected cases of GBS complicated by COVID-19, it is essential to conduct early brain MRI examinations in addition to routine...

15-lipoxygenase and cyclooxygenase expression profile and their related modulators in COVID-19 infection
After the outbreak of COVID-19 infection, the severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) infection led to disability, hospitalization and death of a large number of people around the world [1]. This virus belongs to the Coronaviridae family that is a single-stranded RNA virus (positive-sense) and causes the spectrum of clinical manifestations in infected patients ranging from fever, cough, chest and body pain, myalgia, dyspnea, headache to mortality [2]. Adult male and elderly are more vulnerable to the disease, and cardiac, diabetic, and metabolic diseases are considered as main risk factors for this infection [3].

by Jieun Jang, Hyopin Jeong, Bong-Hwa Kim, Sura An, Hye-Ryun Yang, Sunjoo Kim ObjectivesSevere acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) vaccine effectiveness in coronavirus disease (COVID-19) patients with breakthrough infections has not been established in South Korea. To address this, we assessed the impact of vaccination on symptom occurrence and viral load. MethodsWe performed a retrospective cohort study of 9,030 COVID-19 patients enrolled between February and November 2021. The impact of vaccination on the incidence of symptoms and viral load as indicated by cycle threshold (Ct) values ofRdRp andE genes ...

Post-discharge health assessment in survivors of coronavirus disease: a time-point analysis of a prospective cohort study
ConclusionsThere is an association between lung damage during COVID-19 and the reduction of pulmonary function for up to three months from acute infection in hospitalized patients. Varying degrees of anxiety, depression, stress, and low HRQoL frequently occur in patients with COVID-19. More severe lung damage and lower COVID-19 antibodies were associated with lower levels of psychological health.
