Health profile of workers from different industries in Singapore
CONCLUSION: Health issues are prevalent in the workforce and may affect work and employee safety. It is increasingly important for employees' health to be considered in risk assessments and prioritised in workplace safety and health management systems and strategies. Health promotion interventions should be targeted, and multilevel and multicomponent initiatives should be integrated with pre-existing occupational safety programmes.PMID:37721304 | DOI:10.4103/singaporemedj.SMJ-2021-414

Diseases of the Coronary Microcirculation: Diagnosis and Treatment
CONCLUSION: Approximately 25% of patients with CMD have symptoms that do not respond to intensive treatment with the currently available modalities. New treatments, including interventional therapies, are being studied. Their long-term benefit remains to be assessed and compared to that of the existing methods.PMID:37721132 | DOI:10.3238/arztebl.m2023.0205

Treatments for COVID-19
Annu Rev Med. 2023 Sep 18. doi: 10.1146/annurev-med-052422-020316. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe treatment for COVID-19 has evolved rapidly since the start of the pandemic and now consists mainly of antiviral and immunomodulatory agents. Antivirals, such as remdesivir and nirmatrelvir-ritonavir, have proved to be most useful earlier in illness (e.g., as outpatient therapy) and for less severe disease. Immunomodulatory therapy, such as dexamethasone and interleukin-6 or Janus kinase inhibitors, are most useful in severe disease or critical illness. The role of anti-SARS-CoV-2 monoclonal antibodies has diminished because...

High-Sensitivity Cardiac Troponin Assays: Ready for Prime Time!
Annu Rev Med. 2023 Sep 18. doi: 10.1146/annurev-med-051022-113931. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTRapid and accurate triage of patients presenting with chest pain to an emergency department (ED) is critical to prevent ED overcrowding and unnecessary resource use in individuals at low risk of acute myocardial infarction (AMI) and to efficiently and effectively guide patients at high risk to definite therapy. The use of biomarkers for rule-out or rule-in of suspected AMI has evolved substantially over the last several decades. Previously well-established biomarkers have been replaced by cardiac troponin (cTn). High-sensitivit...

The impact of adverse childhood experiences on mental and somatic health in childhood and adolescence
Orv Hetil. 2023 Sep 17;164(37):1447-1455. doi: 10.1556/650.2023.32851. Print 2023 Sep 17.ABSTRACTMultiple studies prove that children who were exposed to adverse childhood experiences within their families are increasingly at risk of various high-risk behaviours, bullying, mental and somatic disorders. In children/adolescents who undergo terrifying experiences on a repetitive, sometimes daily basis without being provided support and the basic safety they would need, all aspects of personality development will be seriously affected. Urgent action is needed in Hungary to identify these children and provide them with therapeu...
