Conducting and Writing Quantitative and Qualitative Research
J Korean Med Sci. 2023 Sep 18;38(37):e291. doi: 10.3346/jkms.2023.38.e291.ABSTRACTComprehensive knowledge of quantitative and qualitative research systematizes scholarly research and enhances the quality of research output. Scientific researchers must be familiar with them and skilled to conduct their investigation within the frames of their chosen research type. When conducting quantitative research, scientific researchers should describe an existing theory, generate a hypothesis from the theory, test their hypothesis in novel research, and re-evaluate the theory. Thereafter, they should take a deductive approach in writi...

CMAJ Open. 2023 Sep 19;11(5):E826-E837. doi: 10.9778/cmajo.20220198. Print 2023 Sep-Oct.ABSTRACTBACKGROUND: There are few data on patient and public involvement (PPI) in pragmatic trials. We aimed to describe the prevalence and nature of PPI within pragmatic trials, describe variation in prevalence of PPI by trial characteristics and compare prevalence of PPI reported by trial authors to that reported in trial publications.METHODS: We applied a search filter to identify pragmatic trials published from 2014 to 2019 in MEDLINE. We invited the corresponding authors of pragmatic trials to participate in an online survey about ...

Silicone hydrogel versus hydrogel soft contact lenses for differences in patient-reported eye comfort and safety
CONCLUSIONS: The overall evidence for a difference between all included silicone hydrogel and hydrogel SCLs was of very low certainty, with most trials at high overall risk of bias. The majority of studies did not assess comfort using a validated instrument. There was insufficient evidence to support recommending one SCL material over the other. For extended wear, hydrogel SCL may have a lower risk of adverse events at 52 weeks compared to silicon hydrogel. Future well-designed trials are needed to generate high certainty evidence to further clarify differences in SCL material comfort and safety.PMID:37724689 | PMC:PMC1050...
