Benefits and Challenges of Remote Patient Monitoring as Perceived by Health Care Practitioners: A Systematic Review
Conclusion Health care practitioners generally believe that RPM is feasible for application. Additionally, there is a consensus that telemonitoring strategies will become increasingly relevant. However, there are still drawbacks to the technology that need to be considered.PMID:37735970 | DOI:10.7812/TPP/23.022

Antenatal corticosteroids in specific groups at risk of preterm birth: a systematic review
Conclusions There is a paucity of evidence on ACS for women who have diabetes. ACS therapy may have benefits in women with chorioamnionitis and is probably beneficial in FGR. There is limited direct trial evidence on ACS efficacy in women undergoing planned CS in the late preterm period, though the totality of evidence suggests it is probably beneficial. Effect of robotic-assisted gait training on gait and motor function in spinal cord injury: a protocol of a systematic review with meta-analysis
Introduction Robotic-assisted gait training (RAGT) has been reported to be effective in rehabilitating patients with spinal cord injury (SCI). However, studies on RAGT showed different results due to a varied number of samples. Thus, summarising studies based on robotic-related factors is critical for the accurate estimation of the effects of RAGT on SCI. This work aims to search for strong evidence showing that using RAGT is effective in treating SCI and analyse the deficiencies of current studies. Methods and analysis The following publication databases were electronically searched in December 2022 without restrictions ...

Multiple chemical sensitivity scoping review protocol: overview of research and MCS construct
Introduction Multiple chemical sensitivity (MCS) has been characterised by reported adverse responses to environmental exposures of common chemical agents (eg, perfumes, paint, cleaning products and other inhaled or ingested agents) in low doses considered non-toxic for the general population. There is currently no consensus on whether MCS can be established as a distinct disorder. Methods and analysis The scoping review of the literature will be guided by five questions: How is MCS defined and which diagnostic criteria have been proposed? What methods are used to report prevalence and incidence estimates of MCS? What are...

Measurement and outcomes of co-production in health and social care: a systematic review of empirical studies
Conclusions The lack of common approaches to measuring co-production is more problematic than the plurality of measurements itself. Co-production should be measured from three perspectives: outputs of co-production processes, the experiences of participating in co-production processes and outcomes of co-production. Both self-developed study-specific measures and established measures should be used. The maturity of this research field would benefit from the development and use of reporting guidelines.

Reflex syncope in the UK Armed Forces
Conclusions These data are the first to define the incidence and prevalence of syncope in the UKAF. Orthostasis and heat are probable triggers, although recruits are potentially protected. These data offer opportunities to improve the health and well-being of SP, with economic, logistical and reputational benefits for the UKAF. Further research to identify personnel at risk of future syncopal events may allow for targeted use of countermeasures.

Association between electronic nicotine delivery systems use and risk of stroke: a meta-analysis of 1,024,401 participants
CONCLUSIONS: The ENDS usage appears to be associated with a higher risk of stroke compared to non-use, whereas there was no association between former ENDS use and the risk of stroke.PMID:37732043 | PMC:PMC10507757 | DOI:10.5114/aoms/171473

Digital Health Applications in the Area of Mental Health —a Scoping Review
CONCLUSION: Most of the published studies display a high risk of bias, both because of the manufacturers' participation and because of methodological deficiencies. DiGA are an increasingly important therapeutic modality in psychiatry. The available evidence indicates that treatment effects are indeed present, but prospective comparisons with established treatments are still entirely lacking.PMID:37732500 | DOI:10.3238/arztebl.m2023.0208

Effect of Ramadan fasting on thyroid functions in hypothyroid patients taking levothyroxine: a systematic review and meta-analysis
ConclusionTSH increases significantly after Ramadan. No timing point has superiority in maintaining thyroid control. However, choosing the timing should be individualized according to the patient ’s preference to guarantee the most possible compliance.

Safety and efficacy of steerable versus non-steerable sheaths for catheter ablation of atrial fibrillation systematic review and meta-analysis
Conclusions Compared with the use of NSS, the use of SS for RF ablation of AF can effectively reduce the recurrence rate of AF and the occurrence of acute PVs reconnection events. However, there is no advantage in shortening the total RF time, fluoroscopy time, total surgical time and reducing complications.

Patients experience of using colonoscopy as a diagnostic test after a positive FOBT/FIT: a systematic review of the quantitative literature
Conclusion This review highlighted that patient-reported experiences associated with colonoscopy were generally positive. To improve the colonoscopy experience, bowel screening centres should investigate means to: make bowel preparation more acceptable, make colonoscopy less painful and reduce post-colonoscopy symptoms.

Prevalence and risk factors of stroke in high-altitude areas: a systematic review and meta-analysis
Conclusions The findings of this study provide insights into the pooled prevalence of stroke in high-altitude areas, highlighting variations based on geographic regions and sampling type. Moreover, age, gender, hypertension and obesity were found to be associated with the occurrence of stroke. PROSPERO registration number CRD42022381541.

General recommendations for the management of glomerular diseases-2023
Wien Klin Wochenschr. 2023 Aug;135(Suppl 5):696-704. doi: 10.1007/s00508-023-02265-6. Epub 2023 Sep 20.ABSTRACTGlomerular diseases are associated with extrarenal complications, such as thromboembolism, cardiovascular events and particularly infections. A thorough knowledge of the various immunosuppressants and their associated toxicity profile is therefore of great importance. While nephrologists usually have extensive experience with calcineurin inhibitors and antimetabolites, two other compounds (rituximab, in severe cases cyclophosphamide) are used comparatively infrequently and will be discussed in more detail. Moreove...

Diagnosis and treatment of glomerular diseases with a membranoproliferative glomerulonephritis (MPGN) pattern of injury
Wien Klin Wochenschr. 2023 Aug;135(Suppl 5):688-695. doi: 10.1007/s00508-023-02264-7. Epub 2023 Sep 20.ABSTRACTMembranoproliferative glomerulonephritis (MPGN) represents a heterogeneous group of diseases. The common feature of a membranoproliferative lesion pattern in the kidney biopsy can either be idiopathic/primary or-much more frequently-have a secondary cause. The historical classification into MPGN types I to III has largely been abandoned and replaced in recent years by a pathogenesis-oriented classification. A MPGN with C1q, C3 and/or C4 deposits on light microscopy is referred to as immune complex GN (IC-GN), whil...

Diagnostic and therapy of lupus nephritis  - 2023
Wien Klin Wochenschr. 2023 Aug;135(Suppl 5):675-687. doi: 10.1007/s00508-023-02263-8. Epub 2023 Sep 20.ABSTRACTThe manuscript summarizes the consensus of the Austrian Society of Nephrology on the diagnosis and therapy of lupusnephritis, which is built on existing studies and literature. We discuss in detail the immunosuppressive treatment in proliferative forms of lupusnephritis (III and IV ± V) and in pure lupusnephritis V with nephrotic-range proteinuria. Furthermore, the supportive medication in lupusnephritis is summarized in the consensus. The figures were designed to provide the reader a guidance through the therape...
