Got Milk? Breastfeeding and Milk Analysis of a Mother on Chronic Hemodialysis
Conclusion To the best of our knowledge this is the first report on a breastfeeding mother on chronic dialysis. Although we found differences in creatinine, urea, sodium, chloride and phosphate, our general analysis showed high similarity of our patient’s breast milk to samples from low-risk control mothers. Significant variations in breast milk composition between pre- and post-HD samples suggest that breastfeeding might be preferably performed after dialysis treatment. In summary, our findings indicate that breastfeeding can be considered a viable option for newborns of mothers on dialysis.

Management of primary headaches during pregnancy, postpartum, and breastfeeding: A systematic review.
CONCLUSIONS: For prevention of primary headache, calcium channel blockers and antihistamines may not be associated with fetal/child adverse effects. For treatment, combination metoclopramide and diphenhydramine may be more effective than codeine. Triptans and low-dose aspirin may not be associated with fetal/child adverse effects. Future research should identify effective and safe interventions in pregnancy and postpartum. PMID: 33433020 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Serum biochemical, blood gas and antioxidant status in search and rescue dogs before and after simulated fieldwork
Publication date: Available online 6 July 2015 Source:The Veterinary Journal Author(s): J.W. Spoo , D.L. Zoran , R.L. Downey , K. Bischoff , J.J. Wakshlag The aim of the study was to assess the physiological and antioxidant status before and after a 4 h search and rescue field exercise, with handlers, under warm-weather conditions performing activities compared to a control group of similarly trained dogs at rest. Serum chemistry demonstrated a decrease in serum sodium (Na) and potassium (K) in both exercising and control groups, however only Na was decreased significantly (P < 0.05) after exercise and hematocrits...

Optimization of tribological behavior of magnesium metal-metal composite using pattern search and simulated annealing techniques
Publication date: Available online 20 July 2019Source: Materials Today: ProceedingsAuthor(s): S. Sathish, V. Anandakrishnan, Manoj GuptaAbstractMagnesium based metal-metal composite was synthesized through the disintegrated melt deposition technique with the inclusion of aluminium and titanium powders. To examine the metallurgical features of the metal-metal composite the samples of the produced composite was subjected to x-ray diffraction analysis and scanning electron microscopy analysis. To study the tribology of the metal-metal composite, pins of composites were subjected to dry sliding wear test as per standards and t...

A comparison of the in vitro cyto- and neurotoxicity of brominated and halogen-free flame retardants: prioritization in search for safe(r) alternatives.
Abstract Brominated flame retardants (BFRs) are abundant persistent organic pollutants with well-studied toxicity. The toxicological and ecological concerns associated with BFRs argue for replacement by safe(r) alternatives. Though previous research identified the nervous system as a sensitive target organ for BFRs, the (neuro) toxic potential of alternative halogen-free flame retardants (HFFRs) is largely unknown. We therefore investigated the in vitro (neuro) toxicity of 13 HFFRs and three BFRs in dopaminergic pheochromocytoma (PC12) and neuroblastoma (B35) cells by assessing several cytotoxic and neurotoxic end...

Search and Rescue Response to a Large-Scale Rockfall Disaster
Conclusions The risk for personnel involved in mountain SAR operations is rarely reported and not easily investigated or quantified. This case exemplifies the importance of a multiskilled team and additional considerations for prehospital management during natural hazard events. Safety plans should include compulsory protective measures and medical monitoring of personnel.

Manganese in Drinking Water and Cognitive Abilities and Behavior at 10 Years of Age: A Prospective Cohort Study
Conclusions: Elevated prenatal W-Mn exposure was positively associated with cognitive function in girls, whereas boys appeared to be unaffected. Early life W-Mn exposure appeared to adversely affect childrens behavior. https://doi.org/10.1289/EHP631 Received: 19 January 2016 Revised: 08 June 2016 Accepted: 23 June 2016 Published: 26 May 2017 Corresponding author: Address correspondence to M. Correlations Among Maternal and Infant Factors, Lead Exposure, and Serum Prolactin Levels During Lactation: A Cross-sectional Study
CONCLUSIONS: Breastfeeding frequency had a stronger positive relationship with serum prolactin levels than protein and calcium intake. However, lead exposure was associated with reduced serum prolactin levels during lactation. Consequently, specific interventions from policymakers are necessary to manage breastfeeding in mothers exposed to lead.PMID:37735831 | DOI:10.3961/jpmph.23.238

The National COVID-19 Clinical Evidence Taskforce: pregnancy and perinatal guidelines
Med J Aust. 2022 Oct 2. doi: 10.5694/mja2.51729. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTINTRODUCTION: Pregnant women are at higher risk of severe illness from coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) than non-pregnant women of a similar age. Early in the COVID-19 pandemic, it was clear that evidenced-based guidance was needed, and that it would need to be updated rapidly. The National COVID-19 Clinical Evidence Taskforce provided a resource to guide care for people with COVID-19, including during pregnancy. Care for pregnant and breastfeeding women and their babies was included as a priority when the Taskforce was set up, with a Pregnan...

Managing Migraine During Pregnancy and Lactation
Abstract While over half of women with migraine report improvement during pregnancy, having a history of migraine may increase the chance of negative health outcomes. The state of pregnancy increases the risk of several dangerous secondary headache disorders, especially those associated with hypertensive disorders of pregnancy, and providers need to know the red flags to diagnose and treat emergently. Non-pharmacological migraine treatments can be instituted in advance of pregnancy as many are considered the safest options during pregnancy, but understanding the safety of medications and dietary supplements ensur...
