Rapid and Specific Detection of B. melitensis Targeting BMEI1661 Gene Using Loop-mediated Isothermal Amplification (LAMP) Combined With Lateral Flow immunoassay (LFIA)
Curr Microbiol. 2023 Sep 22;80(11):351. doi: 10.1007/s00284-023-03463-1.ABSTRACTB. melitensis is the most pathogenic zoonotic species of Brucella transmitted to animals through fetal secretions, placenta, and vaginal discharges of infected animals and humans by ingesting unpasteurized milk, dairy products, and raw meat. Early detection of B. melitensis is essential for timely intervention and control of the disease. The gold standard diagnostic methods, such as culture, are time-consuming and may take several weeks aiding to the disease spread. Loop-mediated isothermal amplification assay (LAMP) is widely used to detect in...

Therapeutic benefits of prophetic medicine remedies in treating hematological diseases (A review article)
Am J Blood Res. 2023 Aug 15;13(4):130-142. eCollection 2023.ABSTRACTHematological disorders are common medical ailments constituting an important cause of morbidity and mortality worldwide, which may be managed efficiently using different prophetic medicine remedies as adjuvants to current therapeutics. Prophetic medicine includes the body of knowledge about medicine that has been derived from the deeds, customs (sunnah), ahadith (sayings), actions, and agreements of Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him. This review article aims at exploring the magnitude of therapeutic benefits of prophetic medicine remedies as adjuvant tr...

Correlations Among Maternal and Infant Factors, Lead Exposure, and Serum Prolactin Levels During Lactation: A Cross-sectional Study
CONCLUSIONS: Breastfeeding frequency had a stronger positive relationship with serum prolactin levels than protein and calcium intake. However, lead exposure was associated with reduced serum prolactin levels during lactation. Consequently, specific interventions from policymakers are necessary to manage breastfeeding in mothers exposed to lead.PMID:37735831 | DOI:10.3961/jpmph.23.238

Surface inoculation method impacts microbial reduction and transfer of Salmonella Enteritidis PT 30 and potential surrogates during dry sanitation
Int J Food Microbiol. 2023 Sep 18;406:110405. doi: 10.1016/j.ijfoodmicro.2023.110405. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTDry sanitation methods are often limited to physical removal strategies such as brushing or wiping with sanitary cleaning tools. However, the relative efficacy of these approaches to remove microbiota on surfaces, and the risk of transferring cells to other surfaces via the cleaning tool, is unclear. The effect of dry wiping with a single-use towel on the removal of four different bacteria (Salmonella Enteritidis, Enterococcus faecium, Listeria innocua, Escherichia coli) was investigated. We also quantified t...

Biofilm formation by heat-resistant dairy bacteria: multispecies biofilm model under static and dynamic conditions
Appl Environ Microbiol. 2023 Sep 21:e0071323. doi: 10.1128/aem.00713-23. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTIn the food industry, especially dairy, biofilms can be formed by heat-resistant spoilage and pathogenic bacteria from the farm. Such biofilms may persist throughout the processing chain and contaminate milk and dairy products continuously, increasing equipment cleaning, maintenance costs, and product recalls. Most biofilms are multispecies, yet most studies focus on single-species models. A multispecies model of dairy biofilm was developed under static and dynamic conditions using heat-resistant Bacillus licheniformis, P...

Very early onset perinatal constipation: Can it be cow's milk protein allergy?
World J Gastroenterol. 2023 Sep 7;29(33):4920-4926. doi: 10.3748/wjg.v29.i33.4920.ABSTRACTDelayed passage of meconium or constipation during the perinatal period is traditionally regarded as a signal to initiate further work up to evaluate for serious diagnoses such as Hirschsprung's disease (HD), meconium ileus due to Cystic Fibrosis, etc. The diagnosis of HD particularly warrants invasive testing to confirm the diagnosis, such as anorectal manometry or rectal suction biopsy. What if there was another etiology of perinatal constipation, that is far lesser known? Cow's milk protein allergy (CMPA) is often diagnosed in infa...

Prelicensure Nursing Students' Attitudes Regarding Breastfeeding Education
Nurs Educ Perspect. 2023 Sep 19. doi: 10.1097/01.NEP.0000000000001191. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTBreast milk feeding is vital to the health outcomes of the breastfeeding dyad. Nurses have a significant role to promote, educate, and support breastfeeding practices for breastfeeding dyads in diverse settings. Nurses should also promote breastfeeding awareness to normalize breastfeeding as the optimal food for infants. This pilot study investigated the effects of a basic breastfeeding educational module on the breastfeeding attitudes of prelicensure nursing students. There was a statistically significant change in attitud...

Sequencing and analysis of micro RNAs in  camel milk exosomes
Acta Vet Hung. 2023 Sep 19. doi: 10.1556/004.2023.00869. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTIn order to study the species and functions of micro (mi)RNAs in the exosomes of camel milk, non-coding small (s)RNAs were sequenced and identified by Illumina sequencing technology, and the miRNA fraction was analysed by bioinformatics. After quality control, the average length of sRNA of camel milk exosomes was 18-24 nucleotides. A total of 2,659 miRNAs were identified, including 2,458 known, and 201 new miRNAs. Among the known miRNAs, miR-148a and let-7i had the highest expression levels. The results of gene ontology enrichment analys...
