Occupational hypersensitivity pneumonitis caused by fossil-containing rocks
CONCLUSIONS: Bivalve proteins preserved in fossil soils may produce an immune hypersensitivity response. This may impact on the precautions exposed workers, in this case fossil soil cutters and polishers, should take.PMID:34774826 | DOI:10.1016/j.cca.2021.11.008

Mast Cell Disorders Are Associated with Decreased Cerebral Blood Flow And Small Fiber Neuropathy
CONCLUSION: We provide evidence of reduced orthostatic CBFv and SFN associated with mild to moderate autonomic dysfunction in patients with HαT and MCAS. Our findings suggest that comprehensive autonomic testing may be helpful to explain neurological symptoms and guide treatment in patients with HαT and MCAS.PMID:34648976 | DOI:10.1016/j.anai.2021.10.006

Developing a standardized approach for assessing mast cells and eosinophils on tissue biopsies: A  Work Group Report of the AAAAI Allergic Skin Diseases Committee
Mast cells and eosinophils are commonly found, expectedly or unexpectedly, in human tissue biopsies. Although the clinical significance of their presence, absence, quantity, and quality continues to be investigated in homeostasis and disease, there are currently gaps in knowledge related to what constitutes quantitatively relevant increases in mast cell and eosinophil number in tissue specimens for several clinical conditions. Diagnostically relevant thresholds of mast cell and eosinophil numbers have been proposed and generally accepted by the medical community for a few conditions, such as systemic mastocytosis and eosinophilic esophagitis.

Corrigenda
With regard to the article in the November 2020 issue entitled "Cutaneous barrier leakage and gut inflammation drive skin disease in Omenn syndrome" (J Allergy Clin Immunol 2020;146;1165-79.E11), the authors report an error in Fig E1. The authors report that, after publication, it was discovered that the 2 histological images of CXCL9 mRNA expression, using RNAscope technique, are 2 consecutive fields coming from the same skin biopsy. Upon this realization, the authors replaced the left panel with the correct image taken from another skin biopsy of a different OS patient.

Ecchymotic Purpura of the Breast Revealing a Locally Advanced Breast Cancer: An Exceptional Presentation of a Carcinomatous Mastitis
A 79-year-old woman was treated at our department for a neoplasm of the left breast. It was discovered following the spontaneous appearance of a localized ecchymotic lesion of the breast. The only clinical sign was this purpura, with no notion of trauma. The lesion was homogeneous, oval, and measuring 4 × 5 cm, and it was stable for 2 months. The patient had no history of thrombocytopenia and no known allergy. The physical examination was not very helpful and did not find any palpable breast lesion besides a 1-cm left axillary lymphadenopathy. Breast screening revealed a solid, poorly delineated s tructure of 11 mm. Biops...

Approach to Children with Hives
Pediatr Ann. 2021 May;50(5):e191-e197. doi: 10.3928/19382359-20210422-02. Epub 2021 May 1.ABSTRACTUrticaria (or hives) is a pruritic and erythematous skin rash. Angioedema commonly occurs with urticaria. The term "chronic urticaria" is used when hives are present for more than 6 weeks. Acute urticaria is common in children, whereas chronic urticaria is rare. Causes of urticaria can be identified in many cases of acute urticaria with a thorough medical history. Laboratory evaluation may be needed to confirm the etiology of acute urticaria. Chronic urticaria is often idiopathic. Clinicians should avoid universal allergy test...
