Food allergy prevalence and management at an overnight summer camp.
CONCLUSIONS: Management of food allergies at overnight summer camps warrants similar education and preparation strategies as those implemented in schools. Camp personnel should receive annual training regarding food allergies and anaphylaxis. PMID: 27048948 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Food allergy needs assessment, training curriculum, and knowledge assessment for child care.
CONCLUSIONS: CCCWs have diverse educational backgrounds and infrequently experience standardized training about food allergies. There is a significant lack of knowledge regarding food allergies and anaphylaxis. The curriculum was successful at increasing food allergy knowledge among CCCWs. School nurse perspectives on school policies for food allergy and anaphylaxis.
CONCLUSION: With one-third of school nurses reporting an allergic reaction in the past year, schools use many strategies to minimize allergen exposures and increase anaphylaxis preparedness. Most school nurses favor these policies and acknowledge barriers to implementation. PMID: 29508717 [PubMed - in process]

The economics of drug allergy
Purpose of review As drug allergy research aims to inform clinical practice, implementation of best practices may be influenced by financial resources required to incorporate new interventions and the resulting clinical and economic returns on those resource investments. The present review summarizes new insights into the economics of drug allergy over the past year. Recent findings While considering economic implications of recent drug allergy research, many studies have addressed different contextual factors related to the setting, provider, or outcomes. Advances in technology have enabled specialized allergists to ...

Allergen immunotherapy: clinical and practical education of Italian trainees in allergy and clinical immunology schools.
Authors: Ridolo E, Incorvaia C, Senna GE, Montagni M, Olivieri E, Canonica GW Abstract We performed a survey, based on a questionnaire including 20 items, submitted anonymously to Italian trainees in Allergology and Clinical Immunology, in order to obtain information about their specific allergen immunotherapy (AIT) practices. The questionnaire was sent to 40 trainees, who had attended the last two years of the training course. Thirty-four subjects (mean age: 27 years, 65% females) adequately completed the survey. The answers to the questionnaire showed that only 60% of the training programs included lectures on AI...

Promoting and achieving excellence in the delivery of Integrated Allergy Care: the European Academy of Allergy & amp; Clinical Immunology competencies for allied health professionals working in allergy
AbstractThe multi-disciplinary team approach is an effective model for patient care. Allied health professionals (AHPs) are an important part of such teams, bringing specific knowledge and skills related to the target patient population. The AHPs most often involved in allergy care are nurses and dietitians. Nurses are often involved in the care of patients with all types of allergy and also with asthma, whilst allergy-specialist dietitians provide vital nutritional and dietary support for the diagnosis and management of food allergy. There are many other AHPs who have a role to play in allergy care, including physiotherap...

Position document IgE-mediated allergy to egg protein.
Abstract Egg is the food that most often causes allergy in young Spanish children, with an incidence of 2.4-2.6% in the first 2 years of life. The prevalence of sensitisation and allergy to egg is greater in children with allergy to cow's milk and in those suffering atopic dermatitis. The protein component from egg white is the cause of the allergic response in child. The major allergens in egg white are ovomucoid and ovalbumin. Most of the allergic reactions affect the skin, followed by gastrointestinal and respiratory systems. Egg allergy is one of the most common causes of severe anaphylaxis. The diagnosis of e...

BSACI guideline for the diagnosis and management of peanut and tree nut allergy
Summary Peanut nut and tree nut allergy are characterised by IgE mediated reactions to nut proteins. Nut allergy is a global disease. Limited epidemiological data suggest varying prevalence in different geographical areas. Primary nut allergy affects over 2% of children and 0.5% of adults in the UK. Infants with severe eczema and/or egg allergy have a higher risk of peanut allergy. Primary nut allergy presents most commonly in the first five years of life, often after the first known ingestion with typical rapid onset IgE‐mediated symptoms. The clinical diagnosis of primary nut allergy can be made by the combination of a...

Allergy in Hong Kong: an unmet need in service provision and training.
Abstract Many children in Hong Kong have allergic diseases and epidemiological data support a rising trend. Only a minority of children will grow out of their allergic diseases, so the heavy clinical burden will persist into adulthood. In an otherwise high-quality health care landscape in Hong Kong, allergy services and training are a seriously unmet need. There is one allergy specialist for 1.5 million people, which is low not only compared with international figures, but also compared with most other specialties in Hong Kong. The ratio of paediatric and adult allergists per person is around 1:460 000 and 1:2.8 m...
