Prevalence and associated factors for asthma in Brazilian and Japanese schoolchildren living in the city of São Paulo, Brazil.
CONCLUSION: Although both groups were apparently exposed to the same environment, other cultural differences do not allow us to conclude about the ethnic component having greater influence than the environment in the development of asthma in these individuals. PMID: 27425168 [PubMed - in process]

Yellow Fever Vaccine (YFV) for Patients with Egg Allergy: Protocol Proposal.
The current yellow fever epidemic in Brazil has already 1,266 confirmed cases and 415 deaths by 2018-July. Vaccination is the most effective measure of protection against this disease. However, YFV shows ovalbumin levels (>2 μg/ml) not considered safe for patients with egg allergy (EA). Our objective was to describe the vaccination protocol using the Brazilian YFV in EA patients attended in a Reference Allergy Center and to relate the YFV skin tests (ST) to the clinical manifestations reported.

Control of Allergic Rhinitis and Asthma Test for Children (CARATKids): Validation in Brazil and cutoff values.
CONCLUSION: CARATKids is a reliable and valid tool to assess asthma and allergic rhinitis control in Brazilian children. A score of 6 or higher on CARATKids identifies uncontrolled disease, and a score of 3 or lower excludes poor disease control. PMID: 28366584 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Safety and Effectiveness of Oral Food Challenge in Children with Cow's Milk Allergy: Clinical Experience from a Brazilian Reference Center
Oral Food Challenge (OFC) is the gold standard for the diagnosis of cow's milk allergy (CMA). As some Brazilian public services provide special infant formulas, the diagnostic accuracy and proper management of CMA are relevant for public health expenditures. We aimed to determine the profile of children with CMA submitted to OFC at a university hospital and evaluate its public health impact.

Allergy - Patients with Atopic Dermatitis Express Themselves Through a Questionnaire.
Conclusion: A total of 26.4% of survey respondents reported having doctor-diagnosed allergies. Among these patients, half reported having AD during childhood, and 1/3 reported having a current AD. CAD and AD patients clearly have a higher risk of having an allergy than patients without CAD or AD. PMID: 33447067 [PubMed]
