The management of periorbital cellulitis secondary to sinonasal infection: a multicenter prospective study in the United Kingdom
ConclusionFor a condition where swab and blood cultures are often negative, this study supports the use of ceftriaxone in combination with metronidazole. The administration of intranasal decongestants and corticosteroids correlated with a smaller percentage of those progressing to surgery in those with and without periorbital abscesses.

Intervention Study to Evaluate the Importance of Information Given to Patients with Contact Allergy. A randomized, investigator-blinded clinical trial.
CONCLUSION: The performed intervention did not significantly affect the participants' ability to remember their contact allergy. To achieve better knowledge and changes in lifestyle, efforts to inform should concentrate on individuals with several positive patch test reactions, those with particular allergens, individuals over 60 years of age, and-concerning changes in lifestyle-males. What's in? What's out? Updating the British Society for Cutaneous Allergy Facial Series.
CONCLUSION: This audit has highlighted the significant variation in practice that exists amongst patch test centres, despite a recommended facial series. The BSCA facial series has been updated and now contains 24 allergens. Fifteen allergens remain, 11 allergens have been dropped and 9 new allergens have been added. Why Wearing a Face Mask Is Encouraged in Asia, but Shunned in the U.S.
Cheryl Man is usually the only one wearing a face mask on her New York City subway train. She notices this, but other people on the train notice, too. Usually she just gets odd stares from other commuters. But on Tuesday morning, when she was walking to school, a group of teens jeered at her and coughed in her direction. “I felt very humiliated and misunderstood,” says Man, a 20-year-old student and research assistant who is ethnically Chinese. Man also feels the stigma at her workplace, where she keeps her mask on. None of her colleagues wear a face mask, and some of them have asked her if she is sick. ̶...

Re: Prospective study of five-year outcomes and postoperative complications after total temporomandibular joint replacement with two stock prosthetic systems
Gonzalez-Perez et al state that an epicutaneous patch test for metal allergy ( “chrome cobalt molybdenum Co-Cr-Mb” – the correct chemical symbol for molybdenum is “Mo”), T.R.U.E. test® (SmartPractice Denmark ApS) was administered preoperatively.1 Presumably, but not stated clearly, this testing was administered to all patients before they had initial temporomandibul ar joint (TMJ) replacements using either the Christensen (CS), or the Biomet® systems (BS).

Efficiency in patch testing: the number needed to test to get one relevant result as a new approach in the evaluation of baseline series.
Abstract Patch testing is a common procedure, where the baseline series is frequently used as a first screening. The number and the specific allergens of these series varies from country to country and keep changing over the years. Although the European Society of Contact Dermatitis (ESCD) made recommendations about patch testing1 , the decisions about the European baseline series were traditionally delegated to the European Environmental Contact Dermatitis Research Group (EECDRG)2 . A different, more reactive, approach has been recently proposed by the ESCD task force3 , using data provided by the European Survei...

Trends and current spectrum of contact allergy in Central Europe: Results of the Information Network of Departments of Dermatology (IVDK), 2007 - 2018.
CONCLUSIONS: Decreases in sensitisation prevalence likely reflect reduced exposure, with some lag, as for hydroxyisohexyl 3-cyclohexene carboxaldehyde. If no (sufficient) decrease can be observed despite interventions, such as for nickel and chromium, affected subgroups should be identified and their causative exposures explored. Finally, increases like observed with propolis certainly warrant targeted investigation of exposures driving sensitisation, and possibly intervention. Six patients with rare blood disease are doing well after gene therapy clinical trial
UCLA researchers are part of an international team that reported the use of a stem cell gene therapy to treat nine people with the rare, inherited blood disease known as X-linked chronic granulomatous disease, or X-CGD. Six of those patients are now in remission and have stopped other treatments. Before now, people with X-CGD – which causes recurrent infections, prolonged hospitalizations for treatment, and a shortened lifespan – had to rely on bone marrow donations for a chance at remission.“With this gene therapy, you can use a patient’s own stem cells instead of donor cells for a transplant,” said Dr. Donald K...

Wuhan Coronavirus Infections Have Now Surpassed the Official Number of SARS Cases in China
Chinese officials confirmed Wednesday that the number of people infected by a new form of coronavirus in the country has reached 5,974, a total that surpasses the official cases tallied on the mainland during an outbreak of severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS) in 2002 and 2003. SARS infected 5,237 people in mainland China, and killed almost 800 people across the world. The new SARS-like form of coronavirus has killed 132 people in China. The disease, which is believed to have originated in a seafood market in the Chinese central city of Wuhan, has also spread to other countries, including the U.S., where five cases hav...
