Sports Nutrition Knowledge Questionnaires Developed for the Athletic Population: a Systematic Review
AbstractPurpose of ReviewSports nutrition (SN) is pivotal in aiding athletes to reach peak performance, minimize sport-related injuries, enhance career longevity, and improve general health. An accurate assessment of athletes ’ sports nutrition knowledge (SNK) is required to design targeted nutrition education programs aimed at enhancing both nutritional knowledge and dietary practices. This review systematically evaluates studies that use questionnaires to assess the SNK of athletes engaged in athletics.Recent FindingsThe literature search was conducted in PubMed®, Web of Science®, and Scopus®, and 375 potentially re...

Tyrosine glucosylation of collagen films exploiting Horseradish Peroxidase (HRP)
Carbohydr Res. 2023 Sep 9;533:108938. doi: 10.1016/j.carres.2023.108938. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe development of human tissue models for regenerative medicine and animal-free drug screening requires glycosylated biomaterials such as collagen. An easy and fast biomaterial glycosylation method exploiting Horseradish Peroxidase (HRP) phenol coupling reaction is proposed. The protocol is adaptable to any polymer functionalized with phenol residues or tyrosine containing proteins. As a model the tyrosine residues on collagen films were functionalized with salidroside, a natural β-glucoside with a phenol in the aglycon...

Effect of early oral carbohydrate intake after elective Cesarean delivery on maternal body temperature and satisfaction: a randomized controlled trial
CONCLUSIONS: Early oral carbohydrate intake after Cesarean delivery helped to restore maternal body temperature postoperatively and improve maternal satisfaction. Nevertheless, the clinical importance of these finding is unclear, given that most of the differences were small. In addition, there was no delay in maternal gastric emptying after consumption of a complex carbohydrate beverage in the early post-Cesarean period.STUDY REGISTRATION: www.chictr.org.cn (ChiCTR2000031085); first submitted 13 November 2022.PMID:37715046 | DOI:10.1007/s12630-023-02564-6

Dissecting the role of cadmium, lead, arsenic, and mercury in non-alcoholic fatty liver disease and non-alcoholic steatohepatitis
The objective of the present study was to review the existing epidemiological and laboratory findings supporting the role of toxic metal exposure in non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD). The existing epidemiological studies demonstrate that cadmium (Cd), lead (Pb), arsenic (As), and mercury (Hg) exposure was associated both with an increased risk of NAFLD and altered biochemical markers of liver injury. Laboratory studies demonstrated that metal exposure induces hepatic lipid accumulation resulting from activation of lipogenesis and inhibition of fatty acid β-oxidation due to up-regulation of sterol regulatory elemen...

Emerging Applications of Hydroxypropyl Methylcellulose Acetate Succinate: Different Aspects in Drug Delivery and Its Commercial Potential
AAPS PharmSciTech. 2023 Sep 15;24(7):188. doi: 10.1208/s12249-023-02645-1.ABSTRACTHydroxypropyl methylcellulose acetate succinate (HPMCAS) has multi-disciplinary applications spanning across the development of drug delivery systems, in 3D printing, and in tissue engineering, etc. HPMCAS helps in maintaining the drug in a super-saturated condition by inhibiting its precipitation, thereby increasing the rate and extent of dissolution in the aqueous media. HPMCAS has several distinctive characteristics, such as being amphiphilic in nature, having an ionization pH, and a succinyl and acetyl substitution ratio, all of which are...

Dietary intake in individuals with phenylketonuria: an integrative review
CONCLUSION: most individuals with PKU have low energy, protein and fiber intake, adequate lipid intake, and high carbohydrate intake. Metabolic control of the disease is still a challenge in all countries. Nutritional strategies to improve dietary nutritional composition and phenylalanine blood levels in individuals with PKU remain an urgent issue.PMID:37705455 | DOI:10.20960/nh.04579
