Socio-psychological determinants of second trimester maternal pertussis vaccination acceptance in the Netherlands
CONCLUSIONS: Intention, attitude, beliefs on safety and effectiveness, risk perception of side effects and moral responsibility were most predictive for maternal Tdap vaccine acceptance during the second trimester of pregnancy, in accordance with studies regarding third trimester vaccination. These should be discussed by healthcare professionals early in pregnancy to provide an informed choice towards vaccine acceptance.PMID:37121803 | DOI:10.1016/j.vaccine.2023.04.059

Low Vaccine Coverage and Factors Associated with Incomplete Childhood Immunization in Racial/Ethnic Minorities and Rural Groups, Central Brazil
Vaccines (Basel). 2023 Apr 13;11(4):838. doi: 10.3390/vaccines11040838.ABSTRACTDiscrimination and limited access to healthcare services in remote areas can affect vaccination coverage. Therefore, this study aimed to estimate vaccination coverage for children living in quilombola communities and rural settlements in the central region of Brazil during their first year of life and to analyze the factors associated with incomplete vaccination. An analytical cross-sectional study was conducted on children born between 2015 and 2017. The percentage of children who received all vaccines recommended by the National Immunization P...

Tdap vaccination during pregnancy and risk of chorioamnionitis and related infant outcomes
CONCLUSIONS AND RELEVANCE: Tdap vaccine exposure during pregnancy was not associated with chorioamnionitis, preterm birth, or adverse infant outcomes. ICD-10 codes for chorioamnionitis lack specificity for clinical chorioamnionitis and should be a recognized limitation when interpreting results.PMID:37117057 | DOI:10.1016/j.vaccine.2023.04.043

Lack of seroprotection against diphtheria in the Austrian population, in light of reported diphtheria cases in Europe, 2022
Euro Surveill. 2023 Apr;28(17). doi: 10.2807/1560-7917.ES.2023.28.17.2300206.ABSTRACTFollowing an increase in diphtheria cases in Europe since 2022, we retrospectively estimated the prevalence of seroprotection against diphtheria and tetanus in 10,247 Austrian residents (population: 8,978,929) voluntarily tested between 2018 and 2022. Lack of seroprotection against diphtheria was found in 36% compared with 4% against tetanus. The geometric mean antibody concentration against tetanus was 7.9-fold higher compared with that for diphtheria. Raising awareness of regular booster vaccinations against diphtheria in combination wit...

Development of a multiplex-based immunoassay for the characterization of diphtheria, tetanus and acellular pertussis antigens in human combined DTaP vaccines
J Immunol Methods. 2023 Apr 24:113483. doi: 10.1016/j.jim.2023.113483. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTRoutine batch quality testing before vaccine release, notably for potency evaluation, still relies on animal use for several animal and human vaccines. In this context, the VAC2VAC project is a public-private consortium of 22 partners funded by EU whose the main objective is to reduce the number of animal used for batch testing by developing immunoassays that could be implemented for routine potency assessment of vaccines. This paper focused on the development of a Luminex-based multiplex assay to monitor the consistency of...
