Ethical principles for the design of a clinical trial in oncology
The objective of this work is to report on the main problematic issues identified during the evaluation of oncology dossiers by the REC in order to present the expected elements and thus optimise the evaluation procedures.METHODS: The National Conference of the Research Ethics Committees analysed the questions raised by the REC during their evaluation of clinical trials of oncology drugs submitted to the European information system in 2022.RESULTS: Out of a total of fourteen dossiers, nine were subject to ethical questions on the protocol and all dossiers required modifications to the information documents.DISCUSSION: The ...

The dynamic relationships between nuclear energy consumption, nuclear reactors and load capacity factor: time and frequency domain panel data analysis
This study examines the relationships between nuclear energy, nuclear fission, nuclear fusion, and load capacity factor for the eight countries (Canada, China, France, Germany, Japan, Russia, Spain, USA) that consumed the most nuclear energy from 1993 to 2018 using the time (Emirmahmutoglu & Kose, 2011) and frequency domain (Croux & Reusens, 2013) panel causality tests. The results differ according to time and frequency domain causality tests. While the time-domain causality test results showed no causal relationship between the nuclear energy consumption, nuclear reactors, and the load capacity factor variables, t...

SWADAPT2: benefits of a collision avoidance assistance for powered wheelchair users in driving difficulty
CONCLUSION: Finally, this system seems to be indicated to assist and improve driving safety for PWC drivers in driving difficulty. Evaluation was performed in controlled environments; therefore, further evaluation in real-world scenarios is needed to reach technology readiness.PMID:37681970 | DOI:10.1080/17483107.2023.2253339

Increased risk of colon cancer after acute appendicitis: a nationwide, population-based study
EClinicalMedicine. 2023 Aug 30;63:102196. doi: 10.1016/j.eclinm.2023.102196. eCollection 2023 Sep.ABSTRACTBACKGROUND: Acute appendicitis is the most common digestive disease requiring emergency surgery. Colorectal cancer is the third most common cancer in France. An increased risk of colorectal cancer after acute appendicitis has been suggested. We aimed to assess the frequency of hospitalization for colon cancer after appendicitis in a nationwide analysis.METHODS: Using the French Hospital Discharge Database (PMSI), we included all patients aged 18-59 years presenting with acute appendicitis between 2010 and 2015. Univari...

Accuracy of Video-Based Gait Analysis Using Pose Estimation during Treadmill Walking Versus Overground Walking in Persons after Stroke
CONCLUSIONS: Video-based gait analysis using pose estimation provides accurate measurements of step length, step time, and hip and knee kinematics during overground and treadmill walking in persons after stroke. Generally, sagittal videos of overground gait provide the most accurate results.IMPACT: Many clinicians lack access to expensive gait analysis tools that can help identify patient-specific gait deviations and guide therapy decisions. These findings show that video-based methods that require only common household devices provide accurate measurements of a variety of gait parameters in persons after stroke and could ...

Home NIV treatment quality in patients with chronic respiratory failure having participated to the French nationwide telemonitoring experimental program (The TELVENT study)
CONCLUSION: The TELVENT study highlights the importance of remote NIV monitoring to rapidly identify patients with unsuccessful ventilation. The combination of remote monitoring and therapeutic education may improve the quality of home NIV, especially in the first months of treatment.PMID:37683442 | DOI:10.1016/j.resmer.2023.101028

Quantitative fetal MRI with diffusion tensor imaging in cases with 'short' corpus callosum
CONCLUSION: Fetal DTI evaluation of the SCC showed that the FA was significantly lower and ADC significantly higher compared to normal CC in those cases with PB. These differences may highlight alterations of the WM microstructure in SCC with PB. In contrast, isolated SCC without PB does not demonstrate significant changes in diffusion parameters strengthening the possibility of a normal variant. This article is protected by copyright.
